Rice malt stout - what went wrong?

I've brewed a millet/buckwheat pale and couldn't quite get past the millet taste. I've brewed a sorghum+rice syrup partial mash with millet/buckwheat and extracted too much tannin from the husks, and couldn't quite get past the astringency. So I thought I'd do an all rice-malt beer with...

    Don't bend shiny elements

Or this is what you get with your new 6000W Camco. The black Incoloy ULWD ones bend just fine though. The end.

Do you brew in S or SW Minneapolis?

I brew. So do you. Why not start a brew group! Yeah, there are a bunch of homebrew clubs in the Twin Cities, but they aren't in south or southwest Minneapolis, and I'm lazy. I brew in my basement on a 20 gallon electric HERMS system. I'm really curious how other people's systems work and I...

HLT rust on anode and element bases

yeah I know there's 300 threads about rust. But they all say "use an anode!" and I've got one. And it rusts too. I've verified that there's zero ohms resistance between the anode base and the element base. I've cleaned all rust off the anode and element once and still got rust the next time...

Auber PT100 jumping around by 4 degrees

It's the one on the outlet of my HLT, screwed into the tee in a Kal-style build. It jumps around by 3 or 4 degrees all the time now, going from say 149 to 152 to 150 to 153 to 151 to 149 etc. It's not the cable or the PID because plugging a different PT100 (like the one in my BK) into the...

Ever cut slots in your MonsterMill shield for setscrews?

I think I'd find it annoying to take out the setscrews just to get the hopper off to clean the mill. So I was thinking of using a Dremel to cut slots down to the bottom below the setscrews holes so I could remove it easily. Anyone else done that or is it a bad idea?

Anyone have an ActiveAir Speed Controller with an ActiveAir fan?

I have an ActiveAir 6-inch inline duct fan that works great. Since Amazon suggested it, and since Hydrofarm suggests it, I bought the ACSC speed controller. But upon plugging the fan into the controller, it causes the fan to hum loudly and spin very slowly on any setting of the dial...

    Terminal insulation question

So I read one or two posts here about bad crimping and decided to solder all my terminals. For the most part that requires removing the insulator on the terminal since it might melt at solder temps. So here I am half done with the panel, look at some of the 240V 30A connectors, and think "Geez...

MonsterMill thumbscrew tighness and gap adjustment

So I milled the first time with my MM2 2.0 today and had a heck of a time getting the gap stable. The docs say to finger tighten the thumb screws when you have the gap set. So I did that. But then whenever the drill I was using would catch a bit when dumping grain into he hopper, the setscrews...

Greenlee 730BB punch draw bolt size?

Anyone who has a 730BB can you measure the draw bolt diameter (including threads!) and let me know? I was thinking of just drilling the hole instead of using a step bit since I have a low speed high torque drill. Then I wouldn't have to buy a $40 step bit but a $10 3/8 or whatever metal bit...

    Twin Cities MN metal shops

Anyone have a recommendation for metal shops in the metro area that could do things like precision cut a control panel face and/or sanitary weld stainless? Thanks!

Beer with most easily removed labels

So, you're not ready to keg yet? Still rocking brown glass? You know you're gonna drink the beer anyway; so it might as well be good beer and the labels might as well magically disolve right before your eyes. So what do you get? Here's what I've found with recent brands... TLDR; buy...
