HBT runners what is your game changers?

Hey runners out there. What thing has made the most difference to getting you to the next level. For me 20 miles at a time was hard to break for me. I struggled over and over. Then a friend who is a triathlete and I were talking and he recommended I eat jelly beans on my run. It turns out my...

    #2 HDPE false bottom idea.

I'm using a hoff-Stevens style keg, with a bottom drain, as my MT in my rims setup. There is not a whole lot of cheep options for hinged SS false bottoms big enough to fit in the bottom. I came across a thread of a guy who made a false bottom for a straight side keggle with a 5 gallon bucket...

    Who owns spanish peaks brewing?

I was in my local store that is just starting to carry craft beers, among all the other bottles that were 7-8$ I saw Spanish peaks for 2.29$. My beer nerd antenna went up, maybe it's a session beer, maybe low abv less ingredients lesser price. No both the peach ale and IPA are 7%. So I put it in...

    PID setup

Hello, I am building a controller with a MYPIN TA4. I am having trouble with the initial setup so that it reads accurately. It is erratic at one moment and steady but high the next moment. The poorly translated instructions are no help. What are your hy1, hy2, pvf, p, I, d, oud, hys, ctl...

    McMaster Carr

I know that they are a shade on the pricey side, but is there anything you could need for any brewing DIY that they don't have? I was just on there trying to find something I have bought elsewhere and couldn't find a thing. Everything from valves to weld less bulkhead fittings to metal stock.

Is an affordable pump like a unicorn?

Hey everyone, I'm building a RIMS system and I'm looking for an affordable pump. Like a unicorn it just doesn't seem to exist. I have looked at March, chugger, and little giant. They all look great, but are very spendy. Does anybody have an example of a generic pump that has similar...

    Building a RIMS system help

Hey guys currently I'm working on upgrading to a RIMS system. The design I found calls for 2" Stainless steel fittings. All said and done the fittings for the element chamber in SS come to over 200$. Much more then is in the budget. Can you use copper, or brass? Does the chamber need to be 2"...

    Extra roasty nut brown ale.

Hey so I bottled a nut brown ale 2 weeks ago and just got around to trying it. It has an unbelievably roasty finish when I had one. The recipe was as follows: 7 lbs pale, 2 lbs amber, .5 lbs crystal 60, .25 lbs chocolate @152 for 60 mins. .5 oz nugget @ 60 and .5 oz willamette @ 15, and WLP013...

    Wine finings in beer?

I recently did a batch of skeeter pee and have a bunch of the finings left over. They made the skeeter pee really clear and I was wondering if there was any ill effect if you used them on beer as opposed to cold crashing. I used kmeta and sorbate. I'm also guessing that it would eliminate the...

    Angry responses

I have noticed more and more that the responses to fairly genuine questions have responses with a lot of sarcasm and attitude. I understand people are passionate, as am I but belittling someone on the Internet is a cowardly move. This isn't everybody by any stretch, but I just see an increasing...

    Lid ok bk?

Hey I know this seems like a basic question, but do you use a pot lid on your bk? The guy who taught me how to brew never did, so I didn't. But I modified my burner to fit and support my keggle better. It works great, a bit to great and I had more boil off than I expected even on very low heat.

    Corny Kegs in southern ME

Hey folks, besides LHBS is there anywhere in southern Maine (Portland south) to the Portsmouth, NH area to get cheep corny kegs. I haven't found anything I love on craigslist. I was hoping to find a soda distributer looking to offload ones they aren't using anymore, or something like that...

    Carboy size

Currently do 5 gallon batches and I have a 6.5 gallon carboy and a 5 gallon MT. I'm considering doing more half batches so that I can have more types of beer more often. The MT should work great but, Do I need to buy a smaller carboy or will the 6.5 be ok for a 2.5 gallon batch?

Using ice to sparge and cool down wort?

The other day I was reading a thread written by a new brewer who I think was confused about an ice bath for his BK and wanted to add the ice to his BK to sparge and cool post boil. everybody was explaining to him how he was mistaken. It made me think, if you boiled water and made purified ice...
