Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

Go for Pac-Man. I also used octoberfest yeast with very good results too MO will give much more complexity. I made side by side batches with MO VS 2-row and there is no comparison. MO all the way.

Small batch all grain using an instant pot

I'm looking forward to Basic Brewing's Instant Pot IPA video. I tried using our 8qt instant pot for an all grain batch with mild success... my issue was the calculated boil-off was way too much (set to 1 gal/hr is for my 10.5gal biab kettle). I just heated the mash water up to the correct...

Spa panel that plugs into existing 240V dryer receptacle--downsides?

I agree with everything said so-far. I have been brewing using a SPA panel since I moved off the kitchen stove. My old house had a 4-wire dryer which I plugged my spa panel into while brewing (also. my chiller water went into the washer :) ). My current house is new construction and my...

Imperial Porter - need to raise PH

I saw a post last night about thin mashes being problematic with bru'n water. I lowered the water used, and that actually lowered the PH further which I thought was odd. I'm using distilled as my base water as my city water is surface water and will change throughout the year. I thought that...

Imperial Porter - need to raise PH

I was getting ready to brew tomorrow, last step being water. I entered everything into Bru'n Water but can't get the PH up to where I want. Calculated Mash PH 5.2. For Black beers, should be closer to 5.4 for smoother Roast. I'm using BIAB, 8.2 gallons distilled water. I took a look at...

Bru'n Water v5.3 is producing lower pH predictions than past versions

I do BIAB and just got a PH meter. In a Saison I did see a jump between my new and old versions, but i didn't take a PH of the beer when I brewed. I'm getting ready to brew an Imperial Porter - 19lbs grain total, 1 lb black and .5 lb chocolate. I'll post results tonight when I brew.

MM2 powered by garage door opener

If you guys want to see some better pictures, check out the projects article in the November 2017 issue of BYO. I was contacted by BYO to publish the project. Several batches later and the I'm still very happy with the mill.

MM2 powered by garage door opener

@adamreef - It worked really well. i didn't have a problem with the plastic gears on the first batch, but that is something i will keep an eye on. I don't recall what the actual RPM is but I'll measure that once I get it re-assembled (minor adjustments after first run). The original cover will...

MM2 powered by garage door opener

Lol, I was just asked that tonight at my homebrew club meeting. Not in current configuration. I could put the circuit board back in and allow for remote operation, but then you have a delay for the buttons. Safety 3rd, remember.

MM2 powered by garage door opener

Instead of reviving my old thread, I'll start a new one. Old Thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=401345 Well, I purchased the mill way back in 2011. From the start, I had the idea of the garage door opener. There always seemed to be something getting between me and...

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

Side note, I tried an experiment using 2-row plus a little biscuit malt to replace the Marris Otter. Not a fair fight - Marris Otter won hands down. Go with Marris Otter if you can.

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

No recipe is outdated. It's just what you want to do with it. Just like cooking recipes, you have to hone them to your taste, preferences, and equipment. Secondary - I don't (and advocate not to) but many people still insist on doing it. Personal preference Yeast - I believe this was...

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

My opinion is not to secondary anything. It's another risk for infection and oxidized beer. Straight to the keg from primary for me. As far as how long, is the gravity stable? Are you in a rush? I usually go 4 weeks from brew to keg because I'm lazy and not in a rush.
