    Pilsner Malt Help

Probably, but I have had DMS when having a weak boil. That felt like much more waste of time then 30min, but on the other hand I just listened to the brewing network were a test was done and tested proving you can do it in 30 minutes and remove DMS. Mind Blown!

    Pilsner Malt Help

Yeah, if you can get a ripping boil you could chance it, otherwise I would stick with the tried and tried 90 min boil

    Pilsner Malt Help

Good answer, you should have a ripping boil or I would steer toward a 90 minute boil

    Pilsner Malt Help

I believe this is a solid answer, you would be advised to have a ripping boil, so you insure your time is not wasted. DMS is not pleasant. I would steer towards 90.

    Pale Ale thoughts

I like the idea of switching your yeast American Ale II 1272 is a nice strain that leans more toward the malt side then Us 05

    2016 Rhizome time

    That sounds like the tops!
  14. chuckstout

    Which rhizomes to buy?

I personally would suggest growing all centennial. (Since you, have Cascade.). Centennial doesn't seem to grow as strong as Cascade which has pros and cons. One hop you don't have on there is Northern Brewer which I think is also a good complement to ipas, but also other styles as well.

What's a good IBU for a black IPA

I think you should shoot on the lower end with like 50, but lots of late addition, flameout, and dry hops. I feel when the bitterness of the hops and the bitterness of the dark grains create an unwelcome astringency that can get worse if high levels of carbonation are added.
  19. chuckstout

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a pale ale with three different base malts golden promise, Pilsner, and American 2 row, Delta for the hopping and US05 yeast

    Fertilizing?

Thanks for the link beernuts, I have not checked the ph of my soil and also am growing outside, but it looks like there are many uses for 85% phosphoric acid when used properly. I may buy some to have around.
