    carbonating with dry ice

    keeping it cool

    i live in texas so summer a/c bills can be pretty high. i dont want to invest in a mini fridge for my fermenting buckets/carboys whats the cheapest easiest way to keep my brew cool (while fermenting) right now im fermenting at about 73.... this seems like a bad idea.. thank you

    ice into wort

    to cool my wort faster and to add water (extract brewing) i prefreeze 2 gallons of ice. after the boil i just dump the ice into the wort to cool it and bring it up to working volume. i have yet to try the beer but i have used this method twice. is it a bad idea?

    how long does carbonation take?

    i just bottle and carbonate like a newb. corn sugar or whatever to prime it and i just shove it in some bottles. i've been waiting 3 weeks for it to carbonate... is that too long? or too short. they're definitely carbonated after 3 weeks but could i open them sooner?

    growing my own yeast

    so...i'm a beginner. say i didnt want to have to buy yeast everytime i wanted to brew. could i use 90% of the yeast in my beer...save 10% and grow more from that 10%...i.e. could i just make some sugar water and have my little yeasties grow in my fridge?

    i dont want to spend a lot of money. i've been cooling my wort in a bath tub with a few ice cubes in it (my tray doesnt hold that many). the wort cools to about 97F in about 15 minutes and seems to stop... 1) is there a better way i should do this? rather...given my current equipment...

    i just brewed a hefeweizen yesterday. its bubbling like crazy so everything's great so far. but how long should i let it age/ferment? i've heard hefes dont take that long..but it seems a little extra time can't hurt.. your thoughts?
