Priming sugar for a small batch???

About a year and a half ago i did a partigyle brew. Original batch was a RIS, and I was going for a RIS in the partigyle. I did a continuously hopped RIS for 120 minute boil. Aged on french oak for about 2 months. End result is about 1/2 to 2/3 of a gallon. Somewhere between 13-18%. Did some...

    Bottle carbing question

So I bottled my Holiday IPA last Saturday. Through in the priming sugar as usual. Drove to Cincinnati last night and left it in the car :-/ pulled the cases out this morning and brought inside. My question is, since it got so cold would the yeast have died or just took a nap and now wake back up...

    Repitching yeast?

So I have a little bit of a dilemma. I brewed an IPA yesterday and pitched harvested yeast slurry that I harvested at the end of September. Mr. Malty said it was 12% viable and that i should pitch 600ml. So I pitched a little more than that. But I need this beer to start fermenting quickly and...

    Consistently 20 points low........

So I have been brewing since January of this year. I have never brewed a bad beer, and never had an infected batch. Most of the beers I have brewed are big beers(1.080+). And I can definitely tell that they have an abundance of alcohol. But according to my hydrometer readings, I am consistently...

    My son's first brew day!!!

So my mother in-law got my son a (root)beer brew kit!! He was so excited to get it. So we decided to merge the directions from the kit with my normal brewing and bottling techniques. And he was a natural brewer. Made me so proud!

    2 15.5G Kegs

I have 2 15.5 gallon kegs, I cut the top on one of them. The person that i got them from had put two little slits in the top of the one that I cut. He did this to drain the rest of the beer out(you can see the slit in the picture right under the handle). But the other one is sealed up tight...

    Digital thermometer calibration?

So I have a digital thermometer (Taylor brand). I have had a couple brews at lower efficiency than my first few. So I checked the temp of my water before I added grains with the digital and with an old school mercury thermometer. The mercury one was about 3 degrees or so lower. So I think my...

    My Hop Garden (ongoing)

So I am growing hops this year, and a wonderful opportunity fell into my lap. My father was told by a friend that he could use their land for gardening. So he told me that I could use some as well. So he tilled a big section and I picked my area. I have 10 rhizomes (2cascade, 2centennial...

Splitting 5 gallon batch into 5 1 gallon batches

So I have a very basic grain bill for an IPA: 12.5# 2Row (US) 1# Crystal 60l .75# Carapils And what i want to do, is to do a regular size mash, and then split the wort into 5 batches and do 5 different boils. My plan is to do 5 different single hop IPAs and try and really get a feel for...

    Harvesting Yeaat/Yeast Starter question

So I have read up on harvesting yeast and making yeast starters(and watched videos). But my question is more about application. So let's say that I harvest the American Ale 1056 out of my primary, then I wash the yeast. And I want to brew a similar beer(but darker) this weekend. How much of the...

    Primins question.

So I have done 2 batches thus far. One was a brewers best kit that i modified. And the other was a Pliny The Elder Clone (AG). And in the kit it had a priming sugar that i boiled and added right before bottling. And in the Pliny clone it had dextrose that I added right before boiling. So I guess...

    IIPA Recipe Critique

*edit* So I am fairly new to brewing (1 kit, and 1 AG brew) but I am extremely motivated and dedicated. I have come up with a few recipes, with just my personal experience of taste and knowledge of reading (and having done 2 brews). I have put together this recipe and was curious as to any...
