Sounds like it's a solid unit with a poor app. I might still buy in hopes of updates, the coupon is 50 percent off making it only 50 dollars.

Cheap 20 or 25 gallon stainless kettle...too good to be true?

I purchased a similar one I got extremely cheap with a burner I sold to a buddy. Mine is obviously cheap imported junk as leaving water in it overnight discolors it dark. I'm only using it for an electric hot liquor tank but not impressed with the metal quality of the one I have.

    American IPA SGD Raspberry IPA

I am two weeks in, my S05 has ceased at 1.022 which I partly attribute to the lactose. Did a 6 gallon batch with 6 pounds of berries, so glad I put them in a muslin bag. Transferred to the secondary today and dry hopped with 2 ounces of Citra and 2 Amarillo. I like the flavor, raspberry with...

Cheap 20 or 25 gallon stainless kettle...too good to be true?

As far as the threads, they are likely NPT (pipe threads) and there is no such thing as metric so likely the size you can use. Pipe threads start to bind as they are tightened, use some Teflon tape and tighten it up. The problem with converting it to the element opening is it looks too high from...

Cheap 20 or 25 gallon stainless kettle...too good to be true?

I prefer the clad bottom kettles but if you are adding an electric element this looks perfect.

Nice write up and pictures, this is the kind of information that is very helpful. Hats off to Burndog as well for the recipe.

    1968 harvested from brewery

I don't think that is all yeast being as there is still stout in there. I would try washing a jar of that to see how much yeast there really is.

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

Quick update, still slowly working and down to 1.010. I did wash the yeast when it was transferred to the secondary and pitched it into a sister beer that is doing the exact same thing even though pitched at a higher rate.

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

Checked gravity tonight and down to 1.014, the sample looked carbonated like active fermentation, this thing is still going.

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

Good to know, not sure why I thought I used A20, I had to dig the bag out to see it.

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

Well, starter from here on out then. Seems silly to spend all this time on water chemistry, fermentation temps, aeration and the list goes on, to skimp on doing a starter. I think the beer will turn out just fine but I might miss out on some of the flavor notes this strain will produce. Thanks!

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

The yeast is OYL-200 with a date of Nov 29. I like starters too but Omega says 1.060 and under no need and I figured being up close to 80 this thing would take right off anyways. As of yesterday it was not just gassing, the airlock indicates active fermentation with a bubble every 2-3 seconds...

No on the starter and hydrometer for the reading. (A refractometer is worthless with alcohol in it) My date was great, about a month old.

    Omega A20 Tropical slow fermentation

Hello, I'm in for the long haul but curious what others think. I'm brewing a wheat beer with a starting gravity of 1.060 and Omega A20 Tropical pitched at 75 degrees. Fermentation chamber set at 78 and activity after 24 hours. Fermentation was never wild and the cleanest fermentation I have...

    Mashmaster Mash Tun Electric Mixer

I will have to disagree with that, recirculation does not guarantee a consistent grain bed temperature. Check several places with a thermometer and the temp is all over the place. I believe a thinner mash helps but when I want a temperature of say 152, I want it to be just that.
