    Beer idea

Buddy of mine was asking if I could make a beer that tasted like honey roasted nuts. I think it may be doable. Use some Maris Otter or Golden Promise, honey malt, dash of roasted barley, toss some ground nuts or peanut butter in the boil. thoughts? Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Highest ABV you've gotten with bread yeast

I started making mead last year using the JAOM recipe and have gotten some pretty good results with two other recipes using bread yeast. One was a pumpkin mead that I popped a bottle of this past weekend at a friend's party. It was a huge hit. After talking with a few folks I've decided to make...

looking to make a strawberry vanilla mead

I want to use the JAOM method and go with bread yeast, the question in my mind is if I should use Campden tablets or not. I'm going for a one gallon test batch at this time and this is only the fifth batch of mead that I've made, any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated

longest time you've kept beer in the primary?

I have a three gallon batch that, due to a crazy month, has been sitting in the primary for about three weeks now. It did ferment, little plastic thing in the airlock is still up, and no signs of any infection. Four pounds of barley malt total ( pound each of pilsner, smoked, CaraHell, and...

hypothetical question, don't read too much into it

Let's say, hypothetically, some of my family back home in St. Louis would like to try some of my brews at Christmas. And driving out there with the car loaded up, in this scenario, isn't an option. Hypothetically, what would be the best way to send some back?

lost track of time I've been holding on to grains and malt extract

Due to poor time management and lack of knowledge, I'm got a suspicion some of my stuff may be bad. What is the maximum amount of time you guys have gone with storing extract and grains without a problem? I've had the grains in the fridge for the past 4-5 weeks, none have been opened, the liquid...

basics to making a good porter

Got an idea in my head that I'd like to brew when it starts getting colder, but I was wondering if sometime would be willing to share with me some knowledge on making a porter. Pretty much I'm looking for info such as a typical grain bill, hops and other boil additions, stuff like that

looking to make a rauchbier this weekend, suggestions/advice

I'm making an all grain one gallon test batch, and I'm flip-flopping between using only smoked malt or going 1 pound smoked and 1 pound pilsner. I'm using Safale 05 for the yeast and Tradition hops. Any advice or suggestions would be happily accepted.

    Dry hopping: Primary vs. secondary

I'm looking to dry hop an IPA I brewed last week, so I thought I'd check online for some more info. There seems to be a couple different schools of thought, would somebody be willing to share with the advantages and disadvantages of dry hopping in the primary vs. the secondary?

    headspace in fermentor

How much is too much? Did a batch of hefeweizen over the weekend, just shy of a full three gallons, had a little more space at the top than I thought I would

think I may have messed up my hefeweizen

12 quart pot was filled to the brim after sparging and mashing out, so I poured out a gallon into another pot and began my boil on both. However I was flying through Homebrewing for dummies, and in the do/don't section it said do not aerate hot wort. Am I boned?

first attempt at hefeweizen, help/info requested

Plans changed for the weekend so I decided to take a crack at making a one gallon batch. I'd rather do a small all grain batch and get it right rather than do a big batch and make a mistake. Plus I don't have a big enough brew pot or fermentor at this time and I don't have room for them (yet)...
