Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

Sorry about the late response. I haven't been frequenting this site as often as I used to (or would like). It's my understanding that their current Harvest recipe is different from the one that I posted the recipe for. They changed it about two years ago, and quite frankly, I don't care for...

Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

That sounds great. Do you have a website or any other info about the Inn and/or the trails around there? I'm in NY, but my wife and I have always wanted to visit and do something similar.

Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

I wouldn't say it was causing problems and you could leave it out if that's what you want, but my intent was to re-create the Long Trail Harvest. I know when I taste theirs, you can definitely taste the maple syrup in it. You use grains at that amount (and less!), why not maple syrup?

Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

The beer turned out fantastic. The only thing that I would change is lessen the amount of maple syrup. I would probably go 1oz or maybe .75 oz. There was a wine-like characteristic to it - just a hint mind you - but it increased as the beer aged. Other than that, the beer was spot on with...

Android Controlled Electric Brewery Part 1

Adeering- I take it that you'll be wired from your Android to the Arduino? You're not going wireless? If so, why not? Was there any particular reason you decided to go wired? I'm curious because I'm tossing around the idea of doing something similar but via BT (preferably BT 4.0). I...

The adventures of a complete noob and a brew rig

Did you have the burners going for an extended period of time before the pressure dropped? When I brew the tank will get cold and lose pressure and I'll have to shake it from time to time - even more so when the tank gets low. If you keep the tank warm you won't have this issue. Yeah...

Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

It just so happens that Long Trail Harvest is my wife's favorite beer so I set out to make her a batch. On a whim I submitted the 'contact us' form on Long Trail's site not expecting much. The response I got was great - 4/5 paragraphs of information from their Asst Quality Assurance Manager...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Picked up a rack of SLC ribs at BJs. Gonna smoke them up tomorrow on my modified Brinkmann.

The adventures of a complete noob and a brew rig

I went this route initially with my rig as well. I had a ****load of problems with the sparge arm staying at a low rate when needed w/o it getting stuck. It would only move when I had high pressure going to it - all or nothing type of thing. I ditched it and just went with another port at...

Question about dropping the temperature for lagering...

I would also do a diacetyl rest before lagering. Maybe about 90% through fermentation increase your ferm temp to low/mid 60s or so and hold it for a day or two. That will clean up any diacetyl that might be leftover from your fermentation.

As they say: another BRUTUS is born!

Awesome. I'm really interested in how you like the burners and where you got the pilot igniters. I'm planning on putting in some upgrades on my brutus and the burners is where I want to start. Looking forward to the updates! Kick-ass rig BTW.

As they say: another BRUTUS is born!

Gonna try to revive this thread...but have you brewed on this thing yet? I'm curious about the burners you have and their efficiency. I currently use the jet burners on my rig and as everyone that has them know, they serious soot at low flame. Are you happy with these burners? I see they're...

Overly bitter beer? How do i mellow it out?

Aging will do it, but if you want to get experimental you can always blend it with another beer that you might have on hand. I've done that in the past with (albeit, not always) good results. :)
