What's your favorite online store for beer kits?

Always had good results from Austin Homebrew, but usually patronize the LHBS.

    Grain w/ bugs???

I imagine whatever carbs they eat will be replaced by protein. What we may lack in body, we'll make up for with head. Heating up sparge water....

    Grain w/ bugs???

Buggy grain as we set up to brew a Tripel. Anyone ever done this? I know the heat will kill them, but SWMBO is worried about filtering them out. Plan to use a hop sock as we run off into the kettle. I figure any that make it through that will settle out. What would you do?

Why do Extract/PM kits always come for 5 gal? Do you adjust?

If you'll send me or post your recipe, I or someone else on here can run it through Beersmith or Pro mash. I have Beersmith and would be glad to help you get 5.5 in primary.

    First All Grain Day! Whee!

My wife and I did our 1st AG batch awhile ago. What a blast. The aftermath was a full fermenter w/ OG hit, about 14 empty bottles, and a very tired dog, from having played fetch the whole time. It's a lot of fun, and getting good beer out of it is almost incidental. I can't believe we've...

Why do Extract/PM kits always come for 5 gal? Do you adjust?

try doing the math from "Designing Great Beers", adding the priming sugar to the boil, and doing a full boil for better hop utilization. Also, adding your extract later in the boil means a lower gravity boil at first, which should mean better hop utilization. That may stretch your volume.

    The 1.020 Curse

I was reading along and was waiting to see someone post this, or post it myself. This and another pitch w/ champagne yeast will get that gravity down. You'll end up very dry, I'll bet.

    Decoction vs Infusion

Most recipes I've seen for this style call for a mash of 149-151F, again using a single infusion. So, up the mash temp, lose the Cara-pils, add a bit of wheat, and single infusion? Hate to seem noob, just that SWMBO and I are huge fans of Duvel. We'll be brewing tomorrow, trying to get all...

    Decoction vs Infusion

Trying to get a stellar head on a beer. Has anyone brewed the same recipe using a decoction mash vs a single infusion and found that the finished beer had a better head? From my research, it seems that one of the keys to good foam on hefeweizens is due to decoction mashing. Thinking of...

Sweetwater 420 Pale Ale Clone Recipe?

I'll see if I can find anything, they're almost local. If it helps, on a visit to the brewery, I found out they are huge fans of Simcoe.

I made an all-grain brewing video, take a look!

Webster's prefers tun pronounced like the 2000 lb weight measure. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tun Thanks for the great videos. I'm going to try to get SWMBO to watch them. We're getting equipment together for AG.
