My element housing also cracked, but there was no rust. I noticed at the same time that my system tripped the GFI whenever I turned on power to the controller. Darin took care of it and the replacement element has performed flawless since then.

It worked well enough for my IPA. Prevented clogging of pump and plate chiller (Duda) with a meager 6 oz of pellet hops, but a lot of hops did get through. Not sure what others are doing beyond the hop sock. COFI basket would make a good base for a really big hops sock and prevent scorching it...

Wort level is below the top of the filter basket for my batches. I just use the basket (no lid, no false bottom / stem) and attach the swirl boss to the inner side of the basket. Just purchased a plate chiller. So I will find out soon enough if the COFI filter mesh is fine enough for hops...

I use my COFI for a hops filter. I add it to the kettle with about 15 minutes left in the boil and recirculate wort with the SwirlBoss placed inside the COFI to filter hops and trub. Seems to work reasonably well so far.

I just brewed a batch up yesterday and am planning to add Brett to the first secondary. Was hoping that the sacred oak chunks would provide the proprietary Russian River blend of bugs when I add that down the road. I had thought about trying an oak starter to see if I can coax some of those bugs...

And the stir bars are magnetic, so that can't be helping much either.

An in-depth cost benefit analysis of the odds of winning free brew gear multiplied by the cost of goods potentially obtained for free would argue that most of us are wasting valuable time. Our time spent viewing, posting, and obsessing over to this thread would be better spent earning a living...
