    First Sour Questions and Ideas

Couple of reasons: I don't know if my keggle will fit in my chest freezer I don't want to lift the weight of the keggle if I can avoid it I am a little wary of leaving the sweet wort open to the air

    First Sour Questions and Ideas

I'm getting ready to brew my first sour and I am intrigued by the kettle sour process because it means I don't have to have as much dedicated plastics. The problem I have is keeping the wort at an appropriate temperature for during the souring process. Here is my plan: Mash as normal (I've got...

    Infected batch

So I had my first infection after more than 5 years of brewing. I was moving a batch of beer from my fermentation chamber to a fridge to crash and I pulled my Beer Bug out and the overwhelming smell of vinegar struck me. It smells like a very strong sour or just plain vinegar. I'm not sure where...

    CO2 outside-Regulator inside

Perfect. I just needed to know what it was called.

    CO2 outside-Regulator inside

I want to move my CO2 tank out of my keezer but keep the regulator inside (I don't want to have to drill 3 more holes in my collar), what hardware is needed to make this happen. I've done some searching but must of what I see is people running the low pressure lines through the collar but I want...

    CO2-2-Go adapter problem

I did not. A friend of mine suggested that there was something wrong with my CO2 cylinder. It was an older one but I never tested his theory. I just retired it to a drawer with all my other less used brew hardware. Let me know if you are able to get it working...

    CO2-2-Go adapter problem

I've got this adapter and a 20oz CO2 tank. When I screw the tank into the adapter, CO2 just expels out of the small hole on the side of the adapter that I presume is for pressure relief. The tank screws into my old paintball marker no problem but I can't get it to work with this adapter. Has...

Cloudy beer after moving to Single Tier

First two batches had a tablet of whirlfloc. Actually forgot it in the last batch. No difference. I don't think it's directly related to the number of tiers in my setup but I just don't know where to begin looking.

Cloudy beer after moving to Single Tier

Yeah, I've got a Chugger pump and I recirculate for probably 5 or 10 minutes. The wort gets clearer but it's pretty hard to tell if its completely clear. That 5 to 10 minute recirc is probably 2 or so gallons.

Cloudy beer after moving to Single Tier

Last summer I built a single tier brewstand and I got 3 batches under my belt before the winter (if you can call it that, i don't think we have but a couple of days with lows in the 30s) and a kitchen remodel removed any time I might have had to brew. During that time I brewed and ESB and a Rye...

    Yet Another Brewstand build

on the frame there is a little bit of surface rust because i didnt do a very good job painting it and i im not very diligent about keeping it clean. there isnt anything on the all thread because it doesnt get really wet.

    Yet Another Brewstand build

I don't see any problem with that although it would weaken that part of the metal. It might not be an issue but I don't like to take chances when it comes to several gallons of scalding hot water. I would just get another length of all thread. Mine was that zinc plated stuff from home depot...

    Yet Another Brewstand build

Ahhh sorry. I misunderstood. The rail is has a hole drilled all the way through that I have inserted a piece of all-thread in with a washer and wing but for rough adjustment. That all-thread is welded to the frame.

    Yet Another Brewstand build

My burners have a threaded hole and bolt that came with them. The bolt wasn't long enough but if I remember correctly, it was a 6mm bolt from home depot. I just threaded that through my mounting rail and tightened it down. Not to tight though, for fear of stripping out the cast alluminium. I can...

    Roasted barley in coffee grinder

I've got a burr grinder. He says that in order to get the flavor and color, it's nesscessary to "turn it into dust."

    Roasted barley in coffee grinder

In the BCS dry stout recipe, Jamil recommends running the roasted barley through a coffee grinder. Anyone do this? What setting do you use on the grinder?

    small oxygen tanks and regulator

I know that the small bottle isn't ideal but I simply haven't got anywhere to keep a bigger bottle of O2. How many 5 gallon batches of beer can be oxygenated with one of the small bottles? I don't need it for any other use but beer.

    small oxygen tanks and regulator

OK, new idea. What about this? I see the regulator i need right there. it looks like the two hoses are stuck together but that they might come apart. what if i put pulled that black hose off and put the hose with my stone in its place?
