    Cleaning DME out of carpet

I threw out some old DME and my dog decided it would be a great snack. She managed to get it all over the carpet and then proceeded to lick it up to get it really suck. Has anyone had any experience with have to get DME out of carpet? Any tips?

Building a mash tun with bazooka screen

I'm planning on building my first mash tun tomorrow for my first all grain brew on Sunday. I bought a bazooka screen for cheap at my LHBS awhile ago. I was planning on using the instructions for the rubbermaid 10gal cooler on the wiki...

Too much water, low OG. Can it be fixed.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Work just unloaded on me so I won't have time to add the DME so I'm just going to let it be. This beer is for summer hang outs/camping trips so a lower ABV isn't a bad thing. If this happens again (hopefully not) at least I know what to do.

Too much water, low OG. Can it be fixed.

My concern is mixing in the DME without oxidizing and/or contaminating the wort. DME can be a really bitch to mix.

Too much water, low OG. Can it be fixed.

Sorry I left out the starting gravity. I ended up at ~1.042. Poured just over 6gals into my fermenter and then poured out the extra gallon until I was at 5gal. Would adding a # of DME with the watermelon juice work when I rake to secondary?

Too much water, low OG. Can it be fixed.

I made a very simple wheat beer this weekend that I am going to rack onto watermelon for secondary. Here is the recipe: 3 lbs Golden Light DME 3 lbs Bavarian Wheat DME 1 oz of Liberty (3.9%) 2 vials of WLP320 (I didn't have time to make a starter) With a planned 5 gallon batch I should...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Bottled my extract version yesterday and it tasted great. It's not quite Ruination but it's close. My version is maltier and darker in color but the bitterness and hop profile is very close. We'll see how it tastes after it has been bottle conditioned. Thanks for all the help.

    Yeast Boats?

I brewed a 2.5 gallon batch of beer yesterday and pitched a full 11g pack of Safale S-04. I know this is over pitching but half a pack seemed like a waste. Fermentation started but this morning there were also little white floating boats on top of the krasen. Are these just yeast boats or is...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Thanks for responses. I think what I'll do for now is brew a smaller batch so I don't have to top off. I don't think my stove can put out enough heat to do a full boil justice and until I get a propane burner to brew outside I'll modify this recipe to do a 3 gal batch rather than 5. My...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Thanks for the help everyone, after taking into account your suggestions this is where the recipe stands: (I upped the about of DME to get to an Est ABV of 7.7) 1.5 lbs Crystal 20L 4 lbs Extra Light DME @60 2.5 lbs Extra Light DME @5 2 lbs Extra Light DME @ Flame Out 2.00 oz Magnum [14.00 %]...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

So split the Extra light DME (3 lbs @ 60min and 3 lbs @ 5 min) and then also add the last 2 lbs of Light DME after flame out for 8 lbs of DME total, correct?

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Thanks for the quick reply Yooper! I'll use the yeast calculator at Mrmalty.com. Ok so I'm pretty new to all this but what if I want it that bitter as Ruination (according in the stone website) is 100+ IBUs do I double my hops so that the final is over 100 IBUs? Is there a way to make...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Ok so I'm planning on doing using this recipe for my extract version of Ruination and this is my first attempt of trying to build a recipe in BeerSmith: 6 lbs Extra Light DME 1 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt 20L 2 lbs Light DME at Flame Out 2.25 oz Magnum [14.00 %] (60 min) Hops 74.0 IBU...

No signs of fermentation after 5 days

Checked the gravity yesterday morning and it's at 1.014. Tasted it and it tastes like beer! We decided to let it sit in the primary for another week and then bottle it next weekend then brew our next batch later that day after bottling in complete. Thanks so much for all the help. We learned...

No signs of fermentation after 5 days

I knew I should have snapped a pic before I tossed it! I was thinking it was dead yeast too but thought I would ask here. I did not taste it. I'll do that do tonight. The girlfriend and I have decided to just see this batch through to the end and see what happens.
