    Ice buildup in kegerator

When i liveded in FL, for many years I had a kegorator with the same backplate. For about 5-6m out of the year it was a PITA, in particular because the fridge drew humidity through the taptower despite seals, insulation and all. I had a fan installed and damprid bucket, etc etc ... you name it...

Winter Brewing using propane - warm ideas

Like many of us, I am in the same boat. When i ended up in NJ from a warmer place, it was natural to switch to electric to keep brewing in the garage. Kitchen is not an option for me and with a bunch of little ones, i also didnt want to deal with propane anymore. There are many reasonable priced...

    New 240v drop being installed

Ensure you know exactly what you're looking to plug in. There are different plugs available and 30A != 30A outlet. I made the mistake by not paying attention and had to get a $40 adapter. Still cheaper than having the electrician come out again and swap it but $40 i could have avoided. If you...

    Dear Alabama, <sigh>

Just sounds so naughty LOL ... I remember when it was a big deal in 2013 that it was allowed. I bet the sheriff and mayor fell proud of the bust. Only thing is...if you do it in a county/city own building you're on your own

Igloo Cooler - Trouble Holding Mash Temp

Thought of a smaller cooler? Probably too big for the small batch. I used to have a similar problem for a while with a different setup years ago

    Paulaner and Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfestbiers

To go further down this rabbit hole, keep in mind that many breweries, small and large, actually malt themselves (or with local mills) from regional ingredients. After all in Germany, if you go to school to become a brewer you're also a maltster, that goes hand in hand unless you only do a...

    Converting to electric

I cannot speak much to the 120v version but I can tell you that I am more than happy with the 240v. Water for a 5gal batch is heated up in no time, quicker than with me previous propane setup. When I decided which route to go, I went back and forth between the 120v and 240v options and decided...

Has anyone tried Weyermann's German Porter recipe?

Curious ... how did you find that on the website? I cannot locate the German Porter there under the recipe section

    New York beers to try

Brooklyn Brewery is the Sam Adams of NY, pretty good line up. 5 Boroughs and Sixpoints have good beer available in cans, too. You can also ask him to bring NJ like Kane

Hop spider (SS) touches heating element

    Even for pellets?

Hop spider (SS) touches heating element

I'm really not too concerned about the hops itself. I am more concerned about the heating element and hop spider. While I don't think it matters or should, not sure if anything reacts in an odd way.

Hop spider (SS) touches heating element

Yeah I am looking to do that right now to avoid possible issue. But given the underlying issue - does it even matter that it touches the heating element ? I'm still dialing in my new electric setup

Hop spider (SS) touches heating element

I just purchased a stainless steel hop spider 6x14". Testing it out before using it, it touches the heating element, a Blichmann Boil Coil. Should I worry about it or just ignore?

    10g Blichmann Boil Coil?

Can't fully answer all questions/concerns here ... however I can assure you that 1) the 10gal 240v coil heats quickly and boils in no time. Quicker than my old propane setup (at least for me), and hanging a bag is no problem.
