Why Daddy shouldn't dress the kids

I'm colorblind. It was just a bunch of dots!

looking for Sam Adams Boston Ale clone

Thanks Roqk! Time to hit the LHBS. My fermenter looks sad when it's empty. One question: What does sparge mean?

looking for Sam Adams Boston Ale clone

I love Sam Adams Boston Ale. I'm looking for an extract recipe if any one has one. I found a kit on a web site, but I'd rather just take a recipe to my LHBS. Fresher ingredients, better beer. Thanks in advance.!

    She LOVES the brew smell

I just did my second brew which was an extract and crystal English Pale Ale. Boy did it stink up the house. My wife loved it. She kept saying how good it smelled. She even commented on the change in smell over each step and tried to compare it to things she knows. She even called her friend and...

    When do I refrigerate?

Thanks for all the advise. I don't know how I would have done without this forum. I'll do the 3 weeks in the back room, then off to the fridge with the varmints. Fezzman, I'm in Palm Coast, just below St. Augustine.

    When do I refrigerate?

I have a back room that the AC vent is closed. I'm sure it's above 70 all the time and I'd be surprised if it ever got above 80. I'll keep them in there. Is there a point when they have to be friged? I think I'd like to just rotate the stock if you know what I mean. Keep 12 or so of each batch...

    When do I refrigerate?

Is there too high a temp to store them? I'm in Florida and SWMBO keeps the house at 73 during the day and 67 at night. The garage can get up to 100 during the day.

    When do I refrigerate?

My first batch is still in the secondary carboy and is due for bottling on Sunday. This question is WAY ahead of time, but it's driving me nuts. When do you refrigerate your bottles? Do I need to plan drinking ahead of time and decide that I will have four tomorrow and put them in? Speaking...

Tale of the first time disaster.

Transfer day to the carboy has come and gone. The beer looked smelled and tasted fine (just warm and flat). It's a German Octoberfest kit from Brewer's Best. The SG was 1.018 which I guess is okay. It has a beautiful amber color. There was nothing on the top except a few little green things. So...

Tale of the first time disaster.

Thanks for the advice. I would have done it because it's called a carboy handle.

Tale of the first time disaster.

Okay Focus... I'm a newby. What is RDWHAHB? My first two sanitizings (is that a word?) were with one step, it was when I was in panic mode (the two hours following the boil) that I used bleach. I figured it was quicker. I have to admit, I am feeling better now that I hear that my story is...

Tale of the first time disaster.

LOL FSR, they must make those thermometers like that just so we break them. They should sell them 2 for 1. Sunday's the big day. I can't believe I'm so nervous about a batch of beer!

Tale of the first time disaster.

Thanks for the encouraging words and advice. I'll let the primary sit until Sunday before I open it and transfer it to the secondary. Is there anything I should look for or do at that time? Should I worry at all about my gravity? I think Bradsul was correct about the reading without mixing...

Tale of the first time disaster.

Ten years ago my wife got me a Mr. Beer set for Christmas. I quickly brewed up the six cans of various beers that I got with it and enjoyed the experience. After the last beer was gone, that was the end. This year my neighbor wanted to get me a birthday present so my wife suggested a brewing mix...

I'm glad I found this place.

Hi everyone! I just started my first brew Sunday night. I used to do Mr. Beer about 10 years ago, so I don't count that. I think it will be an learning experience because of all the errors and contamination. I'll post my story in the newby thread soon to hear your reactions.
