Wyeast 2007 (Lager) and white layer on top of beer?

This is my first attempt at a lager. I wanted something my dad would like, and for that...I needed to keep it like BUD/MILLER (etc...) I just used 7 lbs. of Pilsner and .5 lb rice solids. It's got a nice malty taste and the 1 oz. of Hallertau hops blended right into the background. (keeping...

Wyeast 2007 (Lager) and white layer on top of beer?

Hey...real quick! I'm fermenting a light lager beer at 50 degrees. All is going well, gravity went from OG 1.043 to 1.006 in one week. (I pitched 2 packs of Wyeast Pilsner 2007 w/ starter and it fermented nicely.) I checked the gravity today and got 1.006. I noticed a thick white film on...

    Is it my imagination?....

I really think my hangovers were worse from a heavy night of drinking store bought beers, than any time I've had HOMEBREW to drink. I mean just a 6pk of store bought makes me feel crappy, and I tend to get a headache. But HOMEBREW which is usually even stronger, leaves me feeling fine in the...

    Mixing yeasts...?

I just tried mixing a WYEAST London Ale III, with a mix of WYEAST 1056/Safale 05. My starter went absolutely bonkers and the yeast is currently in my 4 gallon batch of Glacier Pale Ale. (fermenting nicely at 70 degrees) I wonder which flavor will dominate? Hopefully the beer gives off some...

    Mixing different yeast strains

I tried blending a mix of Safale-05 with Wyeast 1056. This combo did well together since they are similar strains. (a lot of recipes use either one.) I originally made 1 batch of beer with each, then combined them for a 3rd beer and it fermented very well. (hard to tell a difference in tastes at...

    Just bottled...noticed bubbling. B-BOMBS??

Just bottled a batch of "Beach Blonde Ale" last night. I used Safebrew-33 as my yeast for this batch. This beer came out a bit hazier then expected, and it's been 16 days since primary fermentation started. (in other words, I bottled 16 days after fermentation started.) OG - 1.062 - FG -...

    Citra and Amarillo hops!! (AVAILABLE!)

Guys...(and gals) I stumbled upon this store in TN, (Nashville) and although I should keep it a secret, they DO HAVE "Amarillo and Citra" hops! I bought them 2 days ago and they arrived today. (3/1/12) Good luck, I have no idea how many they have left but I bought 4oz. (1 oz. bags) of...

Something may be wrong with my 2nd beer.

Yeah...they are. Toes crossed too. I had no idea the fermentation would take off like that and being a newbie to it all, I didn't realize it could get so warm so fast. I figured if the outside of the bucket said 76 at pitching....it would only go DOWN from there. (now I learned the heat...

Something may be wrong with my 2nd beer.

Yeah, when I said "darned near boiling" I was being sarcastic....and what I meant was the airlock was non-stop bubbling vigorously. (looked like it was boiling!) :)

Something may be wrong with my 2nd beer.

I just did the Caribou Slobber this weekend (1 of 2 first batch beers) from an extract kit. I pitched (dry yeast/rehydrated) at around 76 degrees @ 7pm on Saturday night. By Sunday at 11am it was like 80 degrees! (and darned near boiling!) ha-ha! The krausen was way high and my primary...

Fermenting too fast or too warm?

OK...in my garage the temps are stable at 64 degrees according to "fermometer" on outside of primary bucket. My Brown Ale which concerned me so much yesterday, has begun to dwindle in airlock bubbling. (this is only like 2 - 2.5 days into fermenting.) My Wheat beer is continuing a steady...

Fermenting too fast or too warm?

I think I helped my problem.... I took the fermenting bucket and put it in some cold water, (the same way I cooled my boiling pot) The temperature has now dropped to 64 degrees. I will leave it here for a bit, then move it to the corner of the garage. (Hopefully I salvaged the beer in time...

Fermenting too fast or too warm?

Room (ambient) temp is about 72 in my finished basement area. I moved the bucket to the garage where it's more like 62-64 degrees. Hopefully it slows down a little.

Fermenting too fast or too warm?

I just brewed up my first two extract batches yesterday...both are in the fermenters and my Wheat beer is at 65 degrees and bubbling nicely. My brown ale (Caribou Slobber from Northern Brewer) is bubbling vigorously, almost non-stop and the fermenting bucket is warm. (warmer than the wheat...
