    Mmmmmm Malt Vinegar Beer /sigh

Dog fooding is the best way to describe my feeling now. I'm drinking my 6th batch and my 2nd Lager attempt... An American Light (I was shooting for an Asahi Super Dry clone). Anyway, it had a sulfuric taste when I kegged it. As a Lager that's to be expected so I did the prudent thing and let...

1 Packet of Saflager 34/70 or 2 packets?

Here's my dilemna. I want to brew two lagers this weekend (my first lagers) and I bought 2 11.5g packets of Saflager w-34/70 yeast. Some have recommended pitching two packets into a 5 gallon batch, and officially the Fermentis spec indicates that 1 packet should be fine. If I use both...

    Look Ma! I made Beer!

My first ever home brew... A Cooper's Stout with 2LB Spray Malt. I'm drinking this "Green" after one week in the bottle and it tastes great! Thanks all for the tips, advice, and support. I'm a home brewer. I made beer. :mug: Some notes on the tasting: 1. It hissed as I opened it. No...

My IPA is possessed by satan

I brewed my third batch last night... an IPA and today it's sitting in my Chest Fermentation chamber at 64F pumping out CO2 and froth like crazy. It's a good thing I used an overflow tube instead of my little airlock. Even the seams on my 6.8 Gallon BB lid are bubbling and hissing. I feel...

Bottle Madness - You know your hooked on homebrew when...

I found pint sized 6 packs of 7up and Dr Pepper for $0.33 per bottle. I bought $10 worth, took them home and dumped them down the drain. I'm not a fan of soda. They are pretty sturdy looking bottles and I think they will suffice for home brew. After a bleach soak and a warm rinse I don't...

    My next batch

I'm thinking of an Oatmeal Stout or an IPA for my next batch. Does anyone have a recipe or kit they recommend for this? I just Bottled by Cooper's Stout after 1 week in Primary and 1 week in secondary with no G change. The FG was 1.016 and the OG was 1.045 so I'm looking at a 4% AVB...

Target FG for a Cooper APA kit with 2.5lbs of corn sugar

What should my target FG be for a Cooper APA Extract kit with 2.5 lbs of Corn Sugar added to the wort? My OG was about 1.043 at 70 degrees F.

What's that smell? - Rhino farts?

I'm on my second batch... my first batched (a stout) smelled pleasant while fermenting. This next batch an APA (cooper's kit) smells like rotten eggs (sulfuric). I guess this is the Rhino farts that I've seen referred to on this forum. It's not overwhelmingly bad in the house, but if you...

Pitched yeast at 86F - oops - fermentation started 6-7 hours later

I accidentally pitched my yeast on my 2nd batch (apa) at 86f. Much higher than optimal. Fermentation kicked off fine about 6-7 hours later and the primary is stored at 69f. Will I notice a taste difference? The worst part... I can't RDWHAHB yet :) but I'm ok... Got plenty of Grolsch and...

Another Texan joins the Home Brew Crew.

Hello all! I've been lurking on this forum for about 2 weeks. I just got into Homebrew recently and started with a Stout. I just transfered my Stout to the Secondary fermenter. It smells and tastes great so far (I can't help sipping the sample jar when I take a gravity reading). Will I go...
