    Are these water numbers ok?

I am doing my first AG this weekend. I have horribly hard water and a water softener so all of my water comes from an RO system. I am brewing the AHS Belgian White and came up with the numbers below. Do they look fine for a Belgian White? 3 gallons mash water, 5 gallons sparge water (per...

    fermenting hot

I am brewing the Austin Homebrew honey wheat partial mash. It's my seventh batch. I cooled it to 70 with my wort chiller and then added the dry yeast (SafBrew T58). I then put the fermenter on my basement floor (basement is around 70 degrees, floor is a bit colder). I just checked and...

    Partial mash in a cooler

Tonight I did my first partial mash (London porter). I have a new turkey fryer so I was outside in the garage. I wanted to start before the kids went to bed but I couldn't go to the garage yet. Then I remembered reading about all grain mashing and how it is done in a modified cooler...

How long will a partial mash kit last?

I am planning on ordering two partial mash kits from Austin homebrew. I plan on making one next weekend (the 14th) and the other three weeks later. Will the second kit's grains be ok sitting for a month? I assume I should ask that they not be cracked for the one I plan on doing later. Thanks

    Bottle conditioning experiment

While this is an "I told you so" type of story, here it is few the new guys. I brewed the MW extract Autumn Amber Ale kit on 1/2 and bottled it two weeks later on 1/17. One case of beer went into my daughter's bedroom closet which is in the low 70s (probably 70) while the other was in my...

Assistance with a beer I can't get anymore

My favorite local microbrew closed it doors last month without warning. Unfortuantely I can no longer get one of my favorite beers. This is their description of the beer: Absolute Rat Bastard- This Rat, who is not to be confused with his cousin, Dirty Rat, is a very full bodied ale. This...

    Kicked out of the kitchen

I just cooked my second batch tonight (Midwest Big Ben Pale Ale extract kit). My wife wasn't home for my first batch (Midwest Amber Ale) so she didn't get to smell it until a few hours later. When I started steeping the grains she said "that smells bad." I replied "I haven't even added the...

    Starting second batch

I just bottled my first batch last night which was a MW Autumn Amber Ale. It came in at 1.010 with a SG of 1.040 (recipe states 1.042). I taste it and it had no odd tastes and was pretty much just flat beer. I just ordered my second kit (a pale ale) and I am thinking about starting it next...
