Gearing up for first all grain batch

I've been doing extract and as soon as we get a bit of a break here in Arkansas from the heat, I'm going to try my first all grain. I've been getting bits and pieces of gear along the way getting ready to step things up and wanted to see if there was anything I was missing or something I wish I...

    Inkbird Itc-308 Digital Temperature Controller

I've read some here on these and there were several people waiting on a review on them. Well, mine came in yesterday about a 3 weeks ahead of schedule and while I haven't hooked it up to a freezer yet, I have run a bunch of tests with it and it is easy to set up and it works fine. The case...

5 gallon hlt with 10 gal tun?

I was at lowes today and they have a sale on their igloo coolers. They had one 10 gal and multiple 5's. My plan had always been to get a pair of 10 gallon but I got to thinking; for 5 gallon batches, would you ever need more than 5 gallons of sparge water? Thoughts?

Going all grain - equipment purchases

I am looking to work towards expanding my gear to allow for all grain brewing. I've read volumes on the web and from Palmer and watched hours of youtube video but I am still hung up on a couple of spots and thought I might get some feedback here 1) Size I brew 5 gallon batches and I'm...

    Northern Brewer American Wheat

I am looking at this as my 2nd batch after I get my current one in bottles. I was going to add some orange just to try something different. Should I do sweet orange or bitter? When should I add it? I want some orange flavors but not a slap you in the face taste.

Very active first 24 hours then not so much

Sunday, I brewed my first batch of beer and put it into the fermenter. After about 4 hours, I had bubbles in the airlock and after about 12 hours I had very frequent bubbles through the airlock. Monday morning, the big mouth bubbler was near full of foam and the airlock was spitting sanitizer...

First brew day in the books

I brewed my first batch of beer yesterday, it is a 5 gallon batch of Northern Brewer's Caribou Slobber. In all, I think it went well. Instead of rolling the dice on my tap water, I just got 6 gallons of Ozarka spring water. I did try to do it indoors; we have an electric stove that...

Quick help if possible! - picking gear

It looks like Northern brewing is having a deal today that you get a free 5 gal stainless kettle if you spend $100. I was initially going to wait to get a kit, but I'm thinking this maybe a good reason to take the plunge now - my current options for a boiling kettle are both large (10...

Pro/Cons of starting with a 1 gallon kit

I am looking to start home brewing but cannot settle on a kit size. Originally, I was looking at the 1 gallon kits as I don't have alot of other people to share the beer with, but I'm concerned that it may limit me in what I can do. Also the notion of having a batch yield as few as 8 beers...
