    Ipa?

    I brewed a ipa today and was told what my hydrometer readings should be, I'm way high. I was told by the local shop it should be between 1080 and 1085. My reading is 1100 sg it should end at 1016. help me understand why I can't hit what they say it should be. recipe: 11.5 pounds...

    My first batch is bottled.

    This is the chocolate stout that might have been infected. It tasted fine so i bottled it. We shall see..

    I made a wort chiller today.

    My plan is to use the tote method, putting the wort in a big Rubbermaid type deal and adding ice water to circulate. I think it'll work.

    I've got a couple weeks before bottling?

    I've got my carboy sitting on the floor, so it will need to be moved so I can transfer it to a bottling bucket. My question is when I move it does it need to sit for a while? I assume moving it from the floor to a counter top would stir it up? Thanks.

    hydrometer question?

    I boiled a Canadian ale yesterday and forgot to take a reading before pitching my yeast, the OG reading was supposed to be 1.054 but after pitching the yeast the reading was 1.060 I'm not worried, I'm just wondering how many points the yeast will change the reading? Thanks

    clear or dark bottles?

    Does it really matter? I like Newcastle and have quite a few bottles, I'm brewing a Canadian ale and a chocolate stout. Are clear bottles a no no?
