I want to a a ball valve and sight glass to a hlt and my boiling kettle. However when i spoke to the guy at my home brew shop he said it is not a good idea to do it as i want to as i will be sucking in too much air when sparging. i wanted to put a silicone tube between the swage nipples.

Hi all Stupid question but should you want to take an sg reading before say the ten day mark or so do you simply open your fermenters tap to extract your brew? Will it not affect the rest of the brew should it not be finished?
