    IIPA not carbonating, what next?

I brewed my 8th batch of beer, a double IPA Best Brew kit, under ideal conditions (mid 60 degree temps) in December, and bottled it over 2 weeks ago after leaving it in primary fermenter for 32 days. The airlock bubbled to beat the band from day 2 to day 9. I added 5 oz corn sugar to the 5...

    Long term storage

Once a beer has been bottled and conditioned is it best to store it for long term (several months at most) at room temp or refrigerated? I have been refrigerating my beer after 2 weeks of bottle conditioning, and wondered if that could have adverse effect on the beer in the long haul.

OK, how bad did I screw up?

Went to the freezer for my 2 oz of hallertau hops for the Hefeweizen I am brewing, and found 2 oz of Falconers, which should have been dry hopped to my IPA I bottled last week. This means I dry hopped my IPA with the Hallertau, and I will be hopping my Hefeweizen with the Falconers. Will I...

    Grolsch bottles

I could kick myself. 20 some odd years ago I had amassed a nice stash of Grolsch bottles, probably 3 dozen in all. In one of our subsequent moves SWMBO convinced me to dispose of them. Now that I am home brewing again I really miss the ease and convenience of this type of bottle. I haven't...

11 days into fermentation, still fermenting?

I brewed an IPA 11 days ago, and it fermented like crazy for about 6 days. The recipe I am using called for dry hopping after 7 days. By the time I added the hops to the primary vessel on day 8, visible signs of fermentation had stopped. 3 days after adding the hops, the air lock is not...

    Using municipal water

I probably should have asked this question BEFORE I brewed my last 2 batches, but here it is. My first three batches I used Culligan bottled water because our city water can be pretty nasty (depending on when they add the chlorine). They turned out great, much better than the extract...

    Question about dry hopping IPA

Making my first IPA. It has been fermenting for a week, and the directions call for dry hopping after 5-7 days in a secondary fermenter. Any reason I can't just add the hops to the primary and then bottle in 5 days or so? I figure by cutting out the transfer to the secondary fermenter I am...

    Cheaper session beer?

I am now brewing my 5th batch since I started back homebrewing (after a 26 year hiatus). First brewed a cream ale, turned out great! Second batch was an amber ale, bottled about 2 weeks ago, and it is much more flavorful, and is getting better and better with age. Third batch bottled 5 days...

Coffee porter, adding flavors, other questions

I bottled my first batch in 26 years about 2 weeks ago, a summer ale. Bottled my second batch (amber ale) yesterday, and have my third batch going into 2nd day of fermentation (an English porter). I planned to make a coffee porter. I added 6 cups of strong dark roast coffee (brewed and...

A couple of questions from a newbie

Hello all, new to this forum, but not to homebrewing. I dabbled a bit about 28 years ago, and decided I needed to try again. I have two batches fermenting now, one a cream ale and the other an amber. Anyway, I still have my old equipment, most of which I can salvage. But I ran across 3...
