So since the whiskey won't age in the bottle, is this supposed to taste the same as the day it was bottled?

I might add that this bottle came from a woman's home that my grandparents looked after. This was around 2004-05 when she passed away at the age of 90? From what I understand, my grandparents never saw her drinking. So I honestly have no idea how old it COULD be.

I bought the oaked porter from AHB and it says nothing about sanitizing the oak cubes. I have not opened the original bag yet, so would it really be a bad idea to just add them directly to the brew?

i know people have done this without causing any off flavors. Just make sure you do it at the end of the process. For instance, put a small drop into each bottle.

I know many of us use this method, however in a much smaller setting. A blowoff tube into a bucket/container of sanitizer is essentially the same as a blowoff. Good luck, and be sure to tell us the results if you go through with it.

So I am back from a few months off and of coarse I make a misstep. I had the oaked porter from AHB and didn't really read the directions very carefully. I got a bit cocky and after I finished my mini mash I just jumped right into adding the extract. The directions said to bring to a boil...

Sounds a lot like what I am dealing with currently. We talked today and it doesn't really seem like she wanted to make too much of an effort. I know I couldn't have made much different of an impression...I am just so damn stubborn.
