    Stuck Fermentation

I took another reading, it was rather hard to tell, but somewhere between 1.04 and 1.05, closer to .05 I think... and a green fungus seems to be growing. I'd say I screwed this one up. Here is a picture...

    Stuck Fermentation

It's plastic... and it's definitely on tight, have checked that probably a dozen times hoping that was it.

    Stuck Fermentation

The yeast I used was the Ringwood ale Wyeast #1187. The OG was 1.05 when it asked for 1.061. It is fermenting at 68.4 degrees. My only question was I did the brewing outside, and it was in the high 30s, and I had the yeast out there with me on accident, and didn't activate it until about 1.5...

    Stuck Fermentation

I did my first all grain Sunday night. As of now I still have seen no indications of fermentation. I was a little off on my temps, but not hugely, and my OG was only .01 off. Is it too early to worry or should I re-pitch? What could be the cause of this? The yeast I used was a Wyeast pack.

    Another First AG thread

Finally bit the bullet and did my first AG, a clone of Magic Hat's Blind Faith IPA, using the 70QT Coleman Xtreme cooler I converted with a PITA to make copper manifold. It worked pretty well. I did mess up my temps a bit, but mostly because I discovered a flaw in my Keggle (also my HLT) setup...

    Mash Tun & Keggle

Thanks, had read that but it seems all the images I have seen on here have all the pipes drilled or slotted. Is leaving the outer pipes solid still the recommended method or has actual practice shown that to be less efficient?

    Mash Tun & Keggle

I think I have the cooler and keg setup figured out. My last question is about my manifold; I scrapped the slots and started over with individual 1/16th of an inch holes on the bottom half of the pipe (smallest drill bit I could find). Does this setup look like it will work fairly well for...

    Mash Tun & Keggle

I tightened it pretty tight, but I don't think tight enough to cause the leak. On the cooler it's because the hole for the drain was slightly damaged and elongated, so I filled it with the silicone. So far, they are both water tight now. I'm just afraid of what high heat will do. Guess I'll find...

    Mash Tun & Keggle

I decided I want to make the jump to all-grain and bought everything I need. I bought a Zydeco (Sp) kit to convert a keg and a cooler to a keggle and mash tun respectively. Of course, both leaked. I sealed both with kitchen silicone sealant rated to 400 degrees, and FDA approved. Has anyone else...

Keg and Cooler conversion for first AG

I am going to batch sparge the first time, but do want to be able to fly sparge as well. I actually have the manifold designed, it's the actual valves to both keg and cooler I'm not sure of. That page is very useful though, thanks!

Keg and Cooler conversion for first AG

I want to do my first AG batch this weekend. I bought a keg today from a scrapyard, and wish to turn it into a brew kettle. I am about to go cut the top off, and I know I need a valve on it, but I don't know exactly how to construct the valve for it, and also how to construct the valve for the...

    Hello from Oklahoma

Hello from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I'm a new member of the forum and new to homebrewing in general, but loving it so far. So far I've made one sucessful and one that looks like it's contaminated batch of homebrew, and have learned from both. I grew up with my dad brewing beer occasionally, and hearing...
