    Help needed on Sunbeam Kegerator.

I bought a brand new chest freezer from Sears and used it for about a month before I experienced the same problem you are having. I called Sears and they sent a service guy out. It ended up being that the lines were leaking coolant somewhere in one of the walls. They wanted me to go through a...

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

This is round 2 on my Columbus this year! My first harvest was in mid June. I cut them back to ground level an they are now about 15' tall and have about half developed cones. We'll see how they turn out. Has anyone else gotten multiple harvests from the same plant in one growing season...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

My wife and I had lunch at a pizza place/microbrewery this weekend. I asked what they had on tap and the waiter rattled off the usual BMCs and then he mentioned an IPA. I asked what IPA it was. His response, "just a regular one". My wife looked at me like "oh boy, here we go" but I just let...

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Ok, so I'm about 3 weeks late posting this. I harvested about 1 1/2 lbs of Columbus and 1/2 lb of Centennials off of my second year plants already! After harvest, I cut them off at ground level and restrung my trellis. I have new healthy bines that are about 3 ft tall right now. I'm going to...

I don't think they're going to make it to the top this year. Only one bine is still climbing, but I think it's about done. Maybe next year... Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Things are coming right along in the south I am in the Ozarks region of Northern Arkansas and my hops are nearly fully developed already! They are criss-crossing their way up a 10 foot tall arbor. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Is this normal?

I actually got on HBT today to search this topic. I live in Northern Arkansas (almost on the Arkansas/Missouri line) and I have nearly fully grown cones on my 2nd year Centennials and my Columbus. They even have little lupulin glands already. They are maturing much earlier this year than...

Looking for something new, IPA ideas

I second Yooper's comment. My favorite combo is Chinook/Simcoe/Amarillo. I just use the Chinook for bittering, but you could substitute almost any high alpha hop. I love the Simcoe/Amarillo combo for late additions and dry hopping. They work really well together. In fact, Stone and Dogfish...

    Ipa recipe advice

Have you considered Amarillo instead of Centennial? I have found that it plays very nicely with Simcoe. In fact, that is my favorite dry hop combo.

    Bachelor Party Lager Recipe Critique

Let me preface this by saying that I am brewing this because I am the best man for a friends wedding and I want to do something cool for his bachelor party. He and most of his friends are just basic BMC drinkers. I am looking for honest recipe critique, not "just brew a lager and dump a bunch...

    Basket or no basket

The higher temp also dissolves the sugars better. Since I started mashing out my efficiency has gone up substantially. I used to always be a point or two shy on my OG, now I consistently hit a point or two above.

    Basket or no basket

I don't use a basket. I just mash out at 168, lift the bag out by hand and let it drain, then set it in a strainer and squish the bejeezus out of it with my kettle lid. (I brewed an all grain brown ale today and actually way overshot my gravity with this method.) If you are going to use a...

    Citrus in secondary

I just put the citrus zest (peeled with a knife, not micro planed) in a ziplock bag with just enough vodka to cover them. I dumped the bag into the secondary, vodka and all. It was only maybe an ounce or so in a 5 gallon batch. I couldn't taste the vodka at all.

Looking for brewers in North Arkansas

I've had Piney River Missouri Mule IPA, it's pretty good! I haven't been to the brewery, but I know that it's only open on Saturdays. I will have to get up there one of these days. I was talking to a local liquor store and they said Piney River should be available in northern AR soon.
