The Efficiency Question in a GF.

I would struggle to get a decent Quad or big Sason out of that. I have tried reiterating mashing twice on both occasions the efficiency wax very poor . With one batch I even adjusted the pH before the second mash, the specter of DME is looming large err maybe mmmm I believe I have forgotten...

The Efficiency Question in a GF.

I have an early Manual GF and I'm considering using it for some small higher gravity batches, small enough that I could brew full volume/no sparge. The GF's efficiency is low with that sort of batch simply because there isn't enough sparge water to effectively flush the grain. The plan would...

Voss Kveik for a big stout?

The stout should be in the 10% Abv region, I'm not entirely sure of the value as it will be part of a gyle, if the OG is low I'll use some DME. The Voss sounds like a good choice but I have never used it. Please share your experiences with Voss and high ABV stouts. Many Thanks. Aamcle

    Fermentation Duration?

I'm a brewer thinking of making some wine, a member here kindly recommend Lemon, however I'm puzzled by the amount of time wine fermentation seems to take. If I use an adequate quantity of healthy yeast I can cold ferment a lager in 14 days often less. Wine seems to take weeks even at 20°C and...

    What wine recipe

I would like to try again I've never had success with wine and I'm not entirely sure I have the patience I normally brew beer. Note. I'm in the UK some US ingredients are not available for example frozen juice is hard to find. The types of wine I like:- Fleurrie Good Merlot Chardonnay Not...

    The Brass Monkey and bottling..

That was a bit vague put in down to brain freeze!! I'll get there, there are some of the stronger British bitters will last additionally I'm looking at a Baltic Porter (lager type) and some other higher ABV beers.

    The Brass Monkey and bottling..

I came close to emulating the famous Brass Monkey when I bottled a batch yesterday, it was dam cold in the garage! The plan for this year is to brew frequently in Autumn (or earlier) and build up a stock to keep me supplied through the coldest months some beer choices are obvious, some less so...

A Corny keg as a bottle?

I bottle 90%+ of what I brew 10 days has never failed even when I have lagered before bottling and that is approaching 100 batches in all. It's not perfect WRT CO2 but it works obviously there is some yeast at the bottom but I've never noticed an issue with off flavours. What I have found is...

A Corny keg as a bottle?

I was reading the interesting "ferment and serve from keg" thread and I thought I'd seek comments/advice on my procedure. I ferment in a Brewmeister plastic FV on completion of the cold crash I give my keg a short blast of Co2 and run the wort via a tube into the keg through the beer out port...

Two things.....? Breweasy Compact and malt forward beers

It puzzled me as well especially as it was from an experienced brewer, I've done 9% Biab (when I had a biab system) without difficulty and made a parti gyle by dunking the grain. There was a reduction in volume of course but there are limits even if you have a three v system. Aamcle

Two things.....? Breweasy Compact and malt forward beers

Let's get past the second thing first :) I've seen a suggestion that Full Volume BIAB is less suited for bigger malt forward beers although this has not been my experiance, have any members here had an issue with this? Breweasy. There seems to be a lot of tubing and triclamps involved all of...

FVM in a GrainFather? Biab style....

I've been brewing with the GF for 3years (?not too sure) and it's effective but with less personal satisfaction than the BIAB kit I built. I really want to cut down on time and effort if I'm to brew more smaller batches, it's usually only me drinking is 23 litres takes new long time and it can...
