I just finished reading all 1,374 posts in this thread! Wow, what a lot of great information. Big thanks to Wayne1, Nilo, and a few others who have put forth such a wealth of knowledge and experience. I have been out of home brewing a few years, and am looking to get back into it. Did mostly...

Question about pin lock Corny kegs

I have a lead on some pin lock kegs for $30 each. Can I leave them as pin lock, and change out the lid so that it has a pressure relief valve just by changing the lid? I guess what I am asking is will a ball lock lid fit a pin lock keg???

    MoreBeer Sweet Stout kit

Just took a hydro reading after being on yeast for 9 days. Bubbling has stopped in airlock and gravity reading is right at 1.020. I plan on leaving it on the yeast cake for at least two weeks, and may be bottling it this week-end. Hydro sample tasted outstanding! Can't wait to get it...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Right now, a sweet stout kit from MoreBeer. After it finishes and I get it bottled, next up is a porter kit.

    MoreBeer Sweet Stout kit

About half way in to an hour boil using the MoreBeer Sweet Stout kit. Sure does smell good! I went outside a minute ago to check it and there were several honey bees flying around. Guess they want a sample too! Edit: O.G. was 1.056. Estimated O.G. was 1.045-1.049. Pitched re-hydrated...

    Question about ferment temperature

I have a spot in my computer room that has ceramic tile on the floor. The temperature of the tile is about 61 degrees measured with a stem thermometer sitting on the tile. The temperature of the air in this area is currently about 68-69 degrees using the same thermometer. If I brew a batch...

Most important factor to produce good beer?

Other than sanitation, what do you feel like is the most important factor in producing good quality home brew? How about regulating fermentation temperature? Or having a lot of patience? Just curious what every one thought may be the biggest factor other than sanitation. Thanks. I...

    Honey Orange Cream Ale

Came home from work this afternoon and checked on the brew. I had krausen in the airlock! Not a big mess, and I use vodka in the airlock so I am not too worried about contamination. This is the first time out of the five batches I have made since I started brewing again where there is actual...

    Honey Orange Cream Ale

I steeped the honey malt and carapils in about 3/4 gallon of water. Starting temp was around 155 and after 30 minutes was around 145. I then added that liquid to about 5 1/2 gallons of water for the boil.

    Cream Ale Colorado Cream Ale

I just did a similar recipe today. I used 7 lbs. LME, 1 lb. Carapils, 1 lb. honey malt, .75 oz. cascade at start of boil, and .25 oz. of cascade with 10 minutes left. Also added 1 0z. sweet orange peel at 10 minutes left. Used WLP080 yeast, and hope it turns out good. Will update as it...

    Honey Orange Cream Ale

Just got through brewing up a Honey Orange Cream Ale. Recipe was 7 lbs. Briess Light LME, 1 lb. honey malt, 1 lb. carapils. Added .75 oz Cascade hops at start of boil, and with 10 minutes left added 1 oz. sweet orange peel, 1 tsp. irish moss, and 1/4 oz. cascade pellets. Cooled to 78 degrees...

    2nd all grain batch today

Took a hydrometer sample today and came out at 1.008. I guess I could take another one in a couple of days and if it is the same go ahead and bottle it. I usually just leave it in the primary for three weeks. Beersmith says FG should be around 1.007. Sample did have some hop taste to it and...
