Free shipping on sacks of grain from F.H. Steinbart

I've ordered from them in the past and they were great! I love that Mecca Grade malt.

Free shipping on sacks of grain from F.H. Steinbart

That makes sense! I would just hate to make a purchase that would actually hurt their business, you know?

Free shipping on sacks of grain from F.H. Steinbart

Doing a bulk grain order gives me the option of free shipping. I have 60 lbs of grain in my cart and can do free shipping. This has to be a mistake/glitch, right? I love the price but really don't want them to lose money.

    Oak in lager/pilsner?

I'm thinking 2.5-3 oz of oak cubes (not chips) for 5 gallons of Pilsner, then check it every few days after a week until it tastes to my liking. I made an imperial stout and used only 3 oz of oak cubes but I knew I wanted to age it for at least 6 months and didn't want to over-oak it. Any thoughts?

    Oak in lager/pilsner?

Has anyone added oak to a pilsner? One of my favorite breweries, Branch & Bone, just so happens to be right down the street from me, and they have made several oak lagers. They are so, so good. Clean, crisp, dry, and just enough oak character without being overpowering. I'd like to make...

Free shipping on sacks of grain from F.H. Steinbart

Well I wasn't planning on getting 110 lbs of Pelton today, but... EDIT - just built a cart, there doesn't seem to be any "Free" or "flat" shipping options, at least to where I live. Bummer.

A toast to our puppy pals

This week, I had to say goodbye to the weird-looking dog that has graced my profile picture since I started on this site. He was with me on many brew sessions, and I once named a porter after him (Pugnacious Porter). His name was Gnar, and he was a good boy. Rather than being sad, I wanted to...

    Looking for inexpensive grain bins

I use food-grade plastic buckets with lids from Lowes and they work great! I think they are around $7 including the lid, and a plus is that you can use them for things like holding sanitizer when it's not full of grain.

    Removable "floating" collar on keezer?

Awesome, that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Did you use a guide or anything?

    Removable "floating" collar on keezer?

Has anyone seen/made a "floating" collar for a keezer? I'm thinking of putting a collar on my chest freezer, and would prefer to not have to screw or glue it to the actual freezer. I was thinking of making something that just rests on top, but still keeps things insulated. That way I could...

    Should I make a starter?

Hey guys, I recently got a vial of East Coast ECY08, Saison Brasserie. It's a blend of different strains. The recipe I have is going to be 1.065 OG. My question is, should I make a starter with it or not? Normally I would make a starter with any beer that big, but I'm wondering if I would...

I just don't get water chemistry

No worries. I really appreciate the help with all of this, seriously! The only reason I grabbed that water profile was because it was the firs thing that came up when I googled "Saison water profile". I guess what I'm looking for is: A) A good saison profile B) A way to turn RO water...

I just don't get water chemistry

I definitely want a dry saison. I appreciate all the help, but I would still like someone to tell me specifically what I should add and tell me why I am adding it. A giant wall of text isn't helping me understand this, unfortunately.
