Mixed star San and Cascade complete in my dishwasher. Is that safe?

Yea, seems it was ok. I didn't get any super pungent smells and supposedly Clorine gas is greenish yellow and heavier than air so would be pretty obvious on the floor. Thanks!! (again answered your question in my previous post)

Mixed star San and Cascade complete in my dishwasher. Is that safe?

Getting it extra clean. I'm getting married this week and do we're doing a lot of cleaning around the house and my brain is in overload lol. On the HB side of things, we made 6 cases of Homebrew as our wedding favors

Mixed star San and Cascade complete in my dishwasher. Is that safe?

Without thinking I put star San in my dishwasher and then started it with one of those Cascade complete pods in there. I teach first aid and know generally your not supposed to mix cleaning chemicals but just wasn't thinking this morning. Is that safe mixture? I put my portable dishwasher...

    Priming solution without boiling

Thanks for the advice all. I caved and just did the boil. I was hoping to save myself some time (we're doing homebrews as the favor in our wedding and we had so much stuff to do today I was trying to save every second, lol) but in the time it took me to clean and sanitize the boil was done and...

    Priming solution without boiling

I was looking around and didn't find anything about this. So i have bottled water so i was wondering if I could skip boiling the priming solution or is it for more than just sanitation purposes? Thanks all a RAHAHB

Forgot to add 1lb it DME

Also, one more quick note. Been a hectic to days since my brew day so I'm only getting it in now. There's still some krausen on top of the beer but it looks like the heavy fermenting is done. Will the little DME mix kick it back up?

Forgot to add 1lb it DME

Okie doke. For 1lb of DME, how much water you figure?

Forgot to add 1lb it DME

So I was doing a bit of a rush job on an extract box I got as a Christmas gift ( I do mostly original recipes these days but my of got me a kit that I just hadn't gotten around to). As the description says, after closing up the fermentor for the day, realized I missed a bag of DME. I was...

    substitute stir bar

Sorry to disappoint guys but I went with good 'ol fashion 'swirling as I walk by'. The bottle cap did work in so far as sticking to the stir plate magnet and I was thinking football shape as well, but was more worried about chemicals and some of the metal from the cap getting in there (when i...

    substitute stir bar

So i can't find my stir bar anywhere so am looking into substitutes. It occurred to me that bottle caps touch the beer so should be pretty safe in cooled wort right? What's the consensus on using a sanitized bottle cap as a stir bar for a yeast starter? Any help would be most appreciated as i'm...

    Old Yeast Starter

So, i've had a yest starter sitting in the fridge for a bit over a month. I was reading something on another forum about botulism poisoning from sitting wort. I don't think I have to worry about that as it was a finished starter so it should be beer now not wort. Anyways, my questions are, do I...

    Brew today. Pitch tomorrow?

So, i'm supposed to brew tonight but completely forgot to do a starter. I was wondering... could I brew and bucket my wort tonight, make the starter in the meantime, and pitch it tomorrow? Anyone ever tried that? Results?

    Chocolate Stout cocoa powder/lactose question

Alright... so i've considered everything here and here's what i've come up with. I'm going to try .25lbs of lactose combined with the cocoa powder, 8oz, at 10 min end of boil. I'm going to soak the cocoa nibs in vodka along with a vanilla bean, and add that to the secondary, and finally, another...

    Mini Mash Tun set-up question

I would love to just go all grain but I don't have the equipment or the room for the equipment, currently, for full wort boils. The mini mash tun would be within my budget and give me a taste of all grain that can accommodate my situation. That being said, I like your set-up Derek. I got my...

    Mini Mash Tun set-up question

Staten Island. I might be able to get one from the hardware stores around here, we've got lowes, home depot and freight tools around the corner

    Chocolate Stout

Thanks MM. I think i'm going to try a combination of the two. Adding the cocoa/lactose mix towards the end of the boil and adding the cocoa nibs to the secondary. I'll give your chocolate extract mix a go. I've wanted to try out this extract making business for a while now anyways and it sounds...
