    Extract-only recipes for storage.

What percentage of the final quality of the beer do you think resulted from the steeping grains? In other words, if you left them out, how much difference in the final product would there be? I'm starting to think I'll just have to try it and see. I wonder if there's a chart or formula that...

    Extract-only recipes for storage.

Um, yeah, that's why I plan to use vacuum sealed Mason jars. Thank you for the link.

    Extract-only recipes for storage.

I'm still thinking about long-term storage of (premixed?) ingredients for an ale or two. For the sake of simplicity, I'd like to use exclusively dry malt extract(s). Let's assume I'm growing my own hops, so at least those will be fresh. I haven't solved the yeast problem yet, but let's tackle...

    Storing Barley Malt Extract?

Thanks! That would certainly help with long long-term-storage. I guess I could repackage into smaller containers as I get ready to use it. Do you know how many pounds of BME will fit into a 5 gallon bucket?

    Storing Barley Malt Extract?

Due to, ahem, various current world circumstances, I think it might be a good idea to buy barley malt extract in bulk and store it for the future. I'm looking at one website that sells BME powder in 50 pound bags. I bet there are others. If you buy in bulk and store BME for future use, what...

    Is there a recipe database?

I had to look it up: BJCP = Beer Judge Certification Program.

    Is there a recipe database?

I'm looking through the recipes forum and there are so many recipes, I'm overwhelmed. I feel like I could hunt for hours and not really find what I'm looking for. How would anyone ever know if the same recipe is posted twice? It would be really convenient if there were a searchable database...

    Milk Crates 2 for $11.24 + tax

FYI: 16 ounce Grolsch bottles are a VERY tight fit. I didn't break any bottles when I stuffed them into these crates, but there is less than zero room to spare. I'm going to let them sit in my sunroom for a while. It heats to 100 degrees F out there during the summer. I'm hoping this will...

American Porter Bourbon Barrel Coffee Porter

FYI: Coffee beans are roasted at about 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees C), give or take 20 degrees F (11 degrees C). I would expect they would be fairly sanitary in the bag. If you have a home coffee roaster, depending on the design, it may be possible to add the beans directly from the...

    Milk Crates 2 for $11.24 + tax

I had been storing my Grolsch flip-top beer bottles in cardboard boxes. These boxes were falling apart and impossible to clean. I wanted a better storage solution, so I went on the hunt for milk crates. A 13" x 13" (outside dimensions) crate should hold 16 3-inch-diameter bottles. The least...

    Hi folks!

I just looked, and shipping is nearly $40 for seven crates. Yowza! If the inside dimensions of regular milk crates are 12" x 12", I'll probably just get several of those. Most of the Grolsch bottles I have are 3" in diameter (pint). For some reason, I've also got some 15.2 ounce bottles...

    Hi folks!

Yes, that's the ticket! Thanks! I forgot to mention that our house is supplied by a several-hundred-foot-deep well with produces diamond-hard water. It makes keeping the coffee maker clean a challenge, but I think it's ideal for brewing.

    Hi folks!

Thanks for allowing me to participate here. I'm a homebrewer from East Tennessee. I consider myself a novice brewer, but perhaps not a complete newbie. That being said, it's been several years since I last brewed a batch. Let's just say building and moving into a new house quickly turns into...
