    Help with S-04

Stout bottled yesterday, Red should be bottled today! Thanks!

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

That's what I've been doing. Start with 1/4 of a bean until I get a roast I'm happy with then roast 3/4. I've started playing around with the profiles (P1-5) and notice quite a difference in the roast quality over just using P1. I haven't blended beans yet but may soon with a cheap Brazilian...

    Help with S-04

Thanks. I think I psyched myself out with too much forum reading! I use US-05 mainly and finish with a consistent 1.011 regardless of OG so these seemed high.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I roast indoors in the basement and unplug the closest smoke detector just in case. The smoke suppression is pretty good but the roasted coffee smell does linger. I've started opening the door a bit once first crack starts to extend the time between first and second crack so I do get some...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I picked up a Behmor about a month ago. So far it's been pretty good and much less smoky than the air poppers.

    Help with S-04

Hi all, I've got 2 beers going with S-04 and I wonder if there's stuck fermentation or not. Both are NB extract kits, they had vigorous fermentation with blow-offs being needed for 24-36 hours. First one is the Brickwarmer Holiday Red brewed on Nov 18 and seems to be stuck or finished at...

    The "Dear" , "Sincerely" thread

Dear City Traffic Planner, While I appreciate the addition of bike lanes in the city, painting large sections of them with super slick paint is not too bright! Sincerely, Almost wiped out into oncoming traffic

What to do with old grain

Brulosopher posted recently about a brew where he used 2 year old German Pils and it turned out ok. For some reason I can't paste a link using my phone but if you search 'short & shoddy' on his site it'll come up.

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

Yep, add at flameout like Vendetta5885 said. I had 2 separate clogs so I added another hose to the other side of the carboy cap and made it through the night, switched back to an airlock this morn. Need to get a proper blow-off hose but this was all I had and it worked ok.

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

Brewed this yesterday afternoon and pitched S-04 around 7 last night. Glad I took today off cuz I had to add a blow-off this morning! Just hope the orange peel doesn't get in the way...

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

Hi all, I'm planning on brewing this next weekend but my LHBS is out of Styrian Golding right now. Fuggles and Willamette show up as subs. Has anyone subbed either or could recommend one? Thanks!

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Think I'll give this a go! I got 20 pounds or so of honey that's pushing 30 years old from my grandmother and don't use it enough in cooking so this is a great way to use it.

    Rhubarb Wine

I still have a ways to go with this batch but was wondering if I could bottle this using beer bottles/caps? Figure I'll ask now so I can start acquiring some wine bottles if needed! Thanks

Venting bottles - packaged too early

Did the beer look normal at bottling time (ie no pellicle or lacing)? You may have an infection but you more likely had stuck fermentation, even with ramping temps up you only hit 3.3% ABV assuming you hit the FG of 1.045. Windsor is quite well known for stuck fermentation, it's happened twice...

Venting bottles - packaged too early

I had this happen to a porter that used Windsor. I tried venting like you but was not as patient! I recapped all of them and it helped to the point where I could carefully pour a full beer without getting a glass full of foam. I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet but I'd drink these quick...

    Rhubarb Wine

Thanks Yooper! I meant to ask how long it usually takes to come down but didn't get around to it. I figured 2 weeks was safe given beer takes a week or so to drop 40-50 points, I was surprised it moved so fast.

    Rhubarb Wine

Ok, so this wine fermented quick! I pitched on Aug 19th (OG 1.10) and checked gravity today and I'm at 1.000. I just transferred to secondary today after the reading instead of 1.02-1.04 like recommended, I got busy and really didn't expect it to go this quick. Will there be any effect on the...

Just got a Festa Brew West Coast IPA kit today, has anyone tried it?

The Festa Brew West Coast is good, nice and hoppy. I started with these because they're easy and I had a 1 year old kid and no time. Dump pre-made wort into pail (which aerates it beautifully), rehydrate yeast and you're done in 30 minutes or so and it's 6 gallons. I have had 2 batches that did...
