    Do you need separate brew equipment for kombucha and beer?

    I sanitize with starsan. I have a separate fermenter for f1 kombucha but I’ve been using my beer fermenter for F2. Haven’t made any beer since then. Was wondering if starsan would be good enough to kill the left over scoby, since kombucha itself is pretty low in pH.

    Yeah I'm not interested in alcohol content. Just sugar. I had checked SG after 4 days and it was unchanged. But clearly.its fermenting as there is a pellicle.

    That's what I'm hoping. As long as the fermentation doesn't create other byproducts that have a similar density to sugar.

    I would like to minimize the amount sugar I injest. Is it possible totrack sugar in kombucha with a hydrometer? Not sure if some of the byproducts of fermentation would throw off gravity readings.

    I doubt it’s starsan. I’ve accidentally racked my beer onto half gallon of starsan and there was no off taste!

    That’s what i was thinking!! I’ve been storing the wlp300 yeast in my fridge for the last year... as long as the yeast aren’t shocked for some reason. Ambient temp is around 70 or so. So less than 20 deg diff.

    Made a vitality starter with wlp300 (that expired end of nov 2020).... lol. But I’ve used old yeast plenty times before in this fashion and been finE. Optimal yeast temp for wlp300 is 68-72 deg F. cooled my wort with my immersion cooler. Noticed it was taking forever... after like 30-45 mins it...

    There is very little reason to not BIAB. It is the best way to brew beer. Hands down. You can make good beer with a 3 vessel system...but why bother?

    Haha. As the poster said above... just brew it in the winter and call it a winter beer. I’m actually not big on winter beers and like the light summer beers such as watermelon wheat more. I’m mainly making this for others in my family though who appreciate the more traditional winter beers!
