Texas Houston HBT Members Free 4 1/2 year old grain

Yea I know and I feel bad for letting it go to waste but I was always telling friends and myself that I will brew next month and it never happened. I even went and purchased yeast two times and never got around to it. I threw out all my washed yeast jars when I moved and it seems like that's...

    IIPA mouth feel help

I use the Cali. and the American Ale yeast as well. Try the American Ale. Like Zen said add some wheat, or some flaked oats works for me. Or mash around 154.

    Stout Suggestions

Started adding 10% flaked oats to my Wit and it made it..... I guess you could say creamier..... its hard to describe, it just made the final product better. I already use 50% wheat in my Wit and toned it down to 40% to add the 10% flaked oats. As Machine Shop Brewer stated above it really dose...

    Refractrometer is killing me!!!

Decided to do my first Stout this past Sunday a Southern Star Burried Hatchet Clone. During my boil I was checking my gravity trying to boil down to a 1.088. Well to make a long story short I boiled down to a 1.089 and started to chill my wort. After all chilling I ended up with a 1.079. I...

How far off the bottom and quick connect

Right now I am using a 1/2 inch copper manifold with 1/2 inch copper running to the valve that is threaded onto the bulk head (no dip tube). I think when I drilled the hole for the bulk head I drilled it to high. I did this in case I wanted to fit a false bottom with a dip tube in the MLT in the...

    Hole in my Concrete....LOL

I have had a kegerator for over a year and have been home brewing since Dec. Well I didn't install the drip tray and now I have a hole in my garage under my fawcett. I don't know if it is from the erossion of the dripping of the beer on the floor or the acidity of the beer? If it is from the...

Oshea brewing co. Minibrew 6.5 gallon conical fermenter (ebay), thoughts on it?

I have been looking into a 27 gallon conical for my 20 gallon batches of Ale. I know fermenting creates heat and was woundering if fermenting my 20 gallons of beer in one fermenter vs. four 6.5 gallon bucketts creat more heat in the fermenter. I'm thinking it would create more heat. If I'm...

Does overshooting your OG mean a high efficiency?

I have always over shot my OG doing my Wit but Im not consistent. At firs I was using 18 lbs of grain per 10 gal batch and now I adjusted to 15.75 lbs. per 10 gal batch. The thing is that I know I can cut my grain bill down but I need to make my mashing and sparging more consistent. The last...

What Can I Do With This?

I use the exact same grains to make my Wit. I use 7 lbs 8 oz of Pilsner and 7 lbs 8 oz of wheat malt per 10 gallon batch. 2 oz East Kent Goldings for a hour and 1 oz finley crushed corriander. 1.5 oz of Bitter orange peels soaked in warm water for a hour and then boiled in the wort the last five...
