    Different flavor from same batch

Okay, here's the situation.....now, I want to preface this question with a short background. I have been AG brewing for YEARS......about 20 to be exact. I have an extremely efficient 3 vessel setup, and do 10 gallons at a time. My usual M.O. is to keg 5 gallons and bottle the other 5. So...

My SS Brewtech Mash Tun Review

I pulled the trigger and purchased a 20 gal mash tun from SS Brewtech, and it was one of the best purchases I've made. I dumped the digital thermometer that comes with it and used my ALLA Digital Thermometer in the thermowell with a bit of thermal grease. I lost less than half of a degree over...

    Need help identifying this

Some neighborhood ass-bag took it upon himself, between 4:30 and 5 am this morning, to kick in the side of my son's Mazda. Took the report, officer dusted the doors and took pictures. I need help in identifying this tread pattern. By the looks of it, it is about a size 13, and there are a...

    Let's see those "Frankenbier" Recipes

I am starting to build up quite the reserve of "leftovers" in the fridge, and it's getting close to brewing a Frankenbier. So, let's see some of those Frankenbier recipes, and let us know how they turned out.

    Re-pitching yeast

I am an experienced brewer with over nearly 15 years under my belt. I have come upon a situation I haven't experienced before. Until recently, I have always done 5 gallon batches, and have since moved up to 10 gallons, and doing my primary fermentation in a conical inductor tank. My first two...

    No accessible pipes

I am in the process of building a small pub room in the basement. Now here's the issue. I have no real viable means of supplying water to the bar, and no way to install drainage. I have a double bin stainless kitchen sink I want to use. I was thinking of something like a 30 plastic water...

    Test Done, Ready to Brew!!!!!

Finished running a "dry run" on my new rig, and I have to say that I am pleased. Heated 11 gallons in the HLT (took about 20 minutes) to 170* (not bad considering the ground water temp is about 40 degrees at the moment), then pumped to the MLT. Held 160* steady for over an hour. Had a couple...

    Beer Style Question

I typically brew relatively high alcohol content beers (6.5-8.0%). My question is this: with everything else (srm, ibu, etc.) falling in line with a certain style, would it still be considered THAT style if the abv was out of line? I will usually add honey at the beginning of the boil to bump...

    Checking for air-tightness

I had a "lightbulb" moment the other day. I haven't seen a post about this, so if one exists, I apologize. But if not, I figured this information could be of value. I have read tons of threads on here for induction tank sealing, and it dawned on me. After sealing with food grade silicone and...

    I love building this stuff

Been working on getting my single tier setup done, and I am happy to say that I'm almost there. Just waiting on a couple of bulkhead fittings from brewhardware.com. Nothing on it is automated, and I don't plan on it. I like to have more "hands on" during the process. Anyhow, I've been...

    Single tier almost complete!

Simple answer to simple question, please

My question is: can I use a standard electric "char-broil" type spark igniter with BG14 HP burners? Every search I do results in posts about pilots and Honeywell this, that, and the other. I am not automating or anything. I just want to be able to light my burners without having to drill holes...

    Back to the drawing board

Well, crap! Bought a 15 gallon and 30 gallon drum to make a mash tun. Used 2 part expanding foam from Illstreet Composites, and I'll tell ya, that stuff works GREAT! Too good, actually. You see, it wound up caving in the sides of my 15 gallon drum, sooooooooo, I have to come up with a plan...

    Whirlpool setup

I am in the process of upgrading some of my equipment. I will be going with a single tier 3 vessel, consisting of two 15 gallon pots and a 15 gallon insulated mash tun. I want to set up a whirlpool in my BK, and I am just looking for some advice on the best way to do it, preferably accompanied...

    Concord 60qt SS Kettle

Just received my 60qt Concord kettle. I'll tell you what, I don't think there is a better kettle out there for $86. Man, is this thing stout! It dwarfs my 32qt that I have been using for years. I will be getting a second one in the near future, but for now, it will be utilized for a 10...

    Maintaining temperature

If I were to heat my strike water via propane and transfer to MLT, would a 110v element be sufficient to maintain my mash temp? Where I brew, it would cost an arm and a leg to run 220 to my garage.

    Second Keg

This is my first attempt at a blonde ale, and my second kegged beer. I am a stout/amber ale/dark lager/hefe type of guy normally, but I thought I would do a blonde this time. I have to say, it's AWESOME!:rockin:

    Secondary Question

I am currently experiencing a first. I brewed up a blonde ale 2 weeks ago, using Northwest Ale yeast (Wyeast 1332). I started fermenting in bottling buckets for the ease of transferring to kegs. Airlock activity was at a minimum, so I took a hydrometer reading from the SANITIZED (capitalized...

    Automated Direct Fire Setups

One thing I noticed is that there are no main topics on automated direct fire HERMS setups. I have been doing my research on the subject here and there, but I would like to see a "one stop shop", if you will, section here on the forum. If anybody has any goodies on the subject, or build pics...
