    Founders KBS Haul

    Sometimes you just get lucky. I was happy to get one bottle, but then yesterday I walked into a store and was very surprised to see 4-packs of KBS in the cooler with the other Founder's beers.

    Mistakes. Read one, leave one.

    I was bottling a saison and Belgian dark strong the same day. I used my auto-siphon to take a sample of the saison and then transferred the siphon directly into the BDS to to do the same. Yup, I transferred some 3711 yeast into the BDS. Fermentation restarted in the bottles....... boom!

    What is your fuel source?

    I just made the the transition to my new electric system yesterday. It's awesome having a dedicated electric setup, it made brew day so much easier.

    What's the next step in improving my brewing?

    Another vote for fermentation temperature control. It’s the one thing that resulted biggest improvement in the quality of my beer.

    Do you Stir in your Priming Sugar?

    I never used to stir until I got a batch with very uneven carbonation. Now I always give it a gentle stir.

    I have several cases of Shipyard pry-off bottles. They changed to twist-offs a few years ago. I wonder why?

    What thermometer should I get?

    I use the RT600C for brewing. I have an older non-waterproof Thermapen I was using for brewing, but the moisture and sticky wort started to cause it to malfunction. The Thermapen stays in the kitchen now for grilling and I don’t miss it at all for brewing.

    What time do you brew?

    I like to start early. Setup the night before and start by 7am . I try to have everything cleaned up by 1pm so I have the rest of the day to do other things.
