Simple UI automated BIAB - Node-RED, RFM12, Arduino

Update - I have ported over the jeenode version of the codebase to now work on a Spark Core. Next up is the recipe import. Here you see the spark on a breadboard with a ds18b20 temperature sensor, a button, and a piezo buzzer. It's 74F in my house and the mash step will end in 11 minutes...

Simple UI automated BIAB - Node-RED, RFM12, Arduino

Haha! Cool, man. Glad to see someone else out there in to JeeNodes. I started using them in 2010 as they were teh cheapest arduino-based means of wireless data transmission. Nowadays there's tons of awesome stuff like spark core - something might want to consider instead of bluetooth. Although...

Simple UI automated BIAB - Node-RED, RFM12, Arduino

Sounds like an awesome rig! So the system I put together here is currently being ported/simplified to use: Spark Core for temp and time monitoring, and start/stop/continue via the HABS arduino software (modified to work with a spark, and publish the data to the spark cloud) Node-RED to...

Simple UI automated BIAB - Node-RED, RFM12, Arduino

Yea, the recirc worked out great. The pump seemed to have held up fine during the heating of liquor, maintaining mash, and mash-out. Over 2 hours total continual running. My gas stove locked the temp in well too. I only had to adjust during the mash twice.

    eBIAB Raspberry Pi System Advice?

Yep. The system generates a web page that you access with your device. Both your device and the system have to be on the same wifi network. The source is here: https://github.com/halfluck/HABS Looks like he took his site down, but there's a word doc with directions at the github link.

    eBIAB Raspberry Pi System Advice?

I'm planning to port the HABS arduino sketch used in my brewery to run in Node-RED for this exact purpose. When complete, you would just need a raspberry pi, an SSR, and a temp probe. I feel like this solution will cover a lot of brewers looking for simple monitoring and control. Everything...

Simple UI automated BIAB - Node-RED, RFM12, Arduino

I've been converting my two vessel rig in to a smaller, stovetop BIAB setup and brewed my first batch on it yesterday. It's still a work in progress, but here's where I'm at so far: Brew day is essentially pressing the button on the control panel to start. Then it'll run through all steps...

    Primary only vs. secondary

Many a gallon of great beer has been fermented in plastic buckets, without a secondary. The very least of your concern is how long the beer is sitting on a yeast cake (with this relatively small volume) and should be what temperature is the beer fermenting at. What temperature was the beer...

    Dishwasher Pumps

That's awesome. Sounds like a DIY Braumeister. Got any pics? I'd love to condense my brewery down further in to something like that since I'm already mashing with full vol.

    Dishwasher Pumps

I built the extension cords with parts from Home Depot. For the first test, I simply cut up a computer power supply cable and spliced it to the pump. Yes, you're going to want wrap it up good in electrical tape. I googled for which leads were which. Please don't electrocute yourself. I went...

    Dishwasher Pumps

One of pumps overheated and shut off once after I ran it continuously for 30 min. straight with a really crappy immersion chiller. Other than that they've run fine for transferring strike water, vorlauf, and filling the kettle. I'm running a two vessel system and am mashing with all my water at...

Thanks, cfsb78. I posted a parts list, including links to the pumps here: http://junktrunk.com/2010/07/30/junktrunk-brewery-automation/ *Note: when previewing this post I noticed that HBT is now hijacking external links and presenting you with a choice to go to their new website(the giant...

    Dishwasher Pumps

I've used dishwasher drain pumps on six brews so far and all is well. Here's a video with them in action: http://junktrunk.com/2010/12/31/2010-holiday-homebrews/ it's the 'Porter vorlauf' video at the end of the post.
