Show me your brew room computer setup!

I have a Hosehead BC5 running Craftbeerpi 3. I can't say enough good things about this combo, the BC5 is the size of a large book, and I've never had a problem with it. I mounted a dual monitor stand to the corner of a wood top rolling toolbox. If I BIAB single vessel I the whole brewery fits...

    Ultimate EBIAB kettle wanted

I have the 18G Stout BIAB kettle. Here's the design issues: You'll need to use a strainer bag as the stainless basket holes are way too big. The intended location of the temperature probe is through the lid. I add a TC "Tee" fitting to the recirculating port and use a 12" TC Thermowell which...

Lagering - No Fridge for conditioning

I built a glycol system with a 5000 btu window air conditioner, small ice chest, and RANCO ETC-111000 Digital Cold Temperature Control for about $250 US, I can set it to 25 F and it will cool a 14 gallon SS Brewmaster fermenter from 65 F to 34 F in ~40 minutes.

    Lactic Acid Taste Threshold

"Also, why do you want to use lactic acid over, say, phosphoric acid which has no sour taste?" Phosphoric acid is definitely detectable and will alter the flavor of your beer. It's one of the primary tastes in Coke. I've found 10ml of 88% in the mash isn't noticeable, 20ml is noticeable but...

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Anyone know where a thread on what settings people are using in CraftBeerPi? For instance, what boil temp are you using when the kettle is configured for overshoot? Are you using Automatic or Manual control for boil? I only have one brew session complete using the software but I like it a lot.

Cfraftbeer Pi vs Elsinore 2.0 for Hosehead?

I've brewed once so far on my Hosehead, but during my tests, I liked CraftbeerPi better. Once you create the recipe, you can run them automatically. Interestingly, if you set the recipe step as Automatic, it won't run it in sequence, but if you set all the steps to Manual it does. The...

    hosehead electronic brewery controller

Have had the Hosehead 5BC for a couple weeks, squeezed in my first brew this weekend. I installed Craftbeerpi, and I have to say, I'm really happy with with the system. Would love a pressure sensor to monitor volume someday.

    Tri Clamp End Cap

None of my TC connections have threads, they all clamp together with a gasket inbetween the mating surfaces. You need these: https://www.brewershardware.com/Sanitary-Fittings/Tri-Clover-Caps be sure to get the gasket and clamp as well.

    Could wasabi kill yeast?

Wasabi is horseradish. Yeast is a fungus. Horseradish is a powerful anti-fungal herb. Sorry for the bad news, I'd only try a adjunct like this if I was kegging and force carbonating, but as to your choice...hot pepper in beer is not uncommon, so I can see why you tried it.

    Chocolate Cherry Wheat

You're pretty good, but to officially become a god you'll need to tell me how to finish a complete engine rebuild, launch a IP integration project in Bogota and have a keg of IPA ready to go for New Years Eve. Please submit in your Gantt Chart in MS Project. Note: Extra points for...

    Chocolate Cherry Wheat

I've been rebuilding my Volvo and traveling extensively overseas in the last year, so my homebrewing has temporarily ceased. However we have excellent water quality in North Bend, see the many fine brews produced in the Pacific Northwest from municiple or well water. I believe I added the...

    Guiness!!!...wtf?

Keep in mind that the atmosphere is 74% nitrogen, and the beer engine was developed by Joseph Bramah (April 13, 1748 – December 9, 1814). The beer engine forces ambient air, which consists mainly of nitrogen, in to the beer as it's served. This means that sometime within the first 20 years...

    DIY Conical Fermenter

The problem with the design (although very minor), is the single screw in the middle of the crossmember to seal the top. Because the thin stainless lid doesn't flex evenly all around under pressure, you get leaks caused by the uneven fit. The solution to this is to tranfer the clamping...

    Chocolate Cherry Wheat

You're correct, should say steep 2 minutes to sanatize, then add to primary fermenter. It wasn't good this time. Too acidic and thin, I don't know if I had a mash problem or too many fermentables due to the cherries. I made a heavenly batch of this using this recipie two years ago, and...
