    Counterflow Chiller Tutorial

I'm not trying to smart A$$ but I wouldn't risk any chance introducing bad chemicals in my beer. I would feel bad if someone got sick from drinking it. Maybe the lubricating oils in the freon can be washed out. Maybe not. I would scrap it and get some fresh copper.

Because it has had freon in it. I would be pissed if someone served me beer made with contaminated equipment.

    Soldering Stainless steel

It is also wise to have a good tight connection between the two pieces before soldering for a few reasons. Easier solder, and if you happen to make a mistake and dry fire the fitting wont move or fall out.

    Beetle problem

After doing some more research I do have Japanese beetles. I have only seen a few but they are going to town eating my hops leaves. I am going to try Neem Oil on them and see if that works. It is organic and non toxic so they say. I will post an update for others that might have the same problem.

    Beetle problem

I am a first year hop grower and have noticed a few beetle type insects chewing my hop leaves. Is there something all natural I can do to get rid of these guys? Also noticed the bottom leaves on a few of the plants are turning brown and dying. Thanks for any help.

    Favorite Hop Combinations

How are you hopping with this combo? Fuggles for bittering only? Add any at 30 min left? Then EKG for the rest? Or do a mix of both through out?

    RIMS and Mash

I got them from Bobby's site. Same price or cheaper trying to piece it all together. I figure let him do the leg work and pay shipping once. They are quality pieces too. No machining crap leftover to clean. Basically pbw and go. http://brewhardware.com/rimsherms-parts

    RIMS and Mash

More pictures of the set up. I have a 8" Temp sensor that reaches to right in the middle of the mash. That worked out better than I had planned. I added an extra half coupler a little higher up so I can add another temp senor for bigger mashes I am also using a 4" temp sensor for the...

    RIMS and Mash

Thanks for the tips. I think I need run it a few more times to get a feel for it. I was impressed with how it held temp and I was able to ramp up to close to mash out temps. Which I didn't think RIMS had enough output to do that. When I started sparging with 200 deg water I leveled out at 168...

    RIMS and Mash

I guess I am not too concerned about scorching I am running a 5500w ULD at 120v. So having said that how slow are you running your flow rate? Is it better to run it as slow as you can? Seems like a balancing act between keeping the heat up and not too fast of a rate to compact the mash.

    RIMS and Mash

Recently did my first RiMS brew using a RIMS tube. I had to watch the flow pretty close because the flow would slow down. I used about a pound of rice hulls in a brown ale. Which normally would be over kill. I am using a keggle with a jbird false bottom and a 1.5" RIMS tube from Bobby. So...

Critique my Falconers Flight IPA recipe

RO water will get you back to a neutral base to start with if you think it is the water. Definitely a good place to start.

Critique my Falconers Flight IPA recipe

Something is up with your process. Are you using PBW or oxy clean? You really have to do a good rinse with those cleaners. Like triple rinse. Especially with oxy clean. Your not running your stuff thru the dish washer are you?
