    More fruit flavor

I've been doing a couple of melomels (blueberry, pineapple, and a few others) and they've turned out pretty good, but while they have a fruity flavor, you're unable to tell exactly what fruit it is. I've heard that to remedy this people can add fruit to the secondary, and I'm going to try...

Building my first mash tun, steel question

This is probably a dumb question, but I've seen some places use 316 stainless steel and other use 304 stainless steel. Is there a benefit to using one or the other? Thanks!

Thanks for the responses...I'll look into the lactose and play with that a bit! That's a good point about the way it feels; I didn't think about the texture of it. That's going to require more thought! Perhaps looking at a sweet mead that has a similar taste, if I can't match it outright..

    Ice cream flavor

Has anyone tried to get an ice cream type flavor into their mead, and if so, how did they do it? My grandmother used to make some of the best homemade ice cream there is, and I'm trying to recreate the flavor in a mead for all of the grandkids for Christmas if possible. I've played around...

    Newbie Mead Maker Question

Ok, sorry about that! Let's see if I can narrow it some! Fruits I've tried - blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, pear and apple. I've used whole blueberries and strawberries that were halved, and also pureed. Kiwi was pureed and sliced. Apple and pear were juiced. I use campden tablets, but a...

    Newbie Mead Maker Question

Thanks for the info! Follow up question though! =) For using frozen fruits like apples or pears, do you cut them up and/or peel them before freezing?

    Newbie Mead Maker Question

Hey all, I have a question or two I hope I can get some help with! So I'm curious about adding fruit. I've made a few melomels so far, and I've put the fruit in a few different ways (typically in the primary though). I've tried using whole fruit but with mixed results because some of it...
