Thoughts on my "Whatever I have - IPA"?

Hello guys. I am half planning my fourth batch. I am an extract brewer due to limitations in terms of equipment. In my freezer I have 36g enigma hops, 74g cascade and 100g chinook. I ´have so far only done SMaSHes so I wanted to expirement and try something different with various hops and...

Looking to brew my first IPA using malt extract. Tips on good extracts and priming tips?

Update: Drinking has begun 🤣 It's now been more than a week since we tried this beer for the first time. Initial thoughts were positive. It is slightly hoppy, but not a lot I think it may lack a bit of bitterness. Once you have swallowed, there is really no traces left in your mouth barely. Head...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Yup. This is exactly what we realised we should have done, but then it was too late haha. Oh well. We know until next time now. I suppose this slurry does not need to contain a lot of liquid, as in our case that would be a problem because we don't have much extra room. But yea obviously only...

    Ginger beer recipe - Thoughts?

Update Brew day done. Boiled 8L of water and dissolved 913g of DME before the boil, then added 24g cascade @ 60. Added 90g grated ginger + ginger juice 15. Added remainder of DME at flame out. Topped of in fermenter to 19L. All bottled water this time. OG landed at 1,046 which is a bit lower...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Yea I had time to check the chapter before the brew (Y). And yea I think I have a pretty good idea of what ingredients can be added cold. Speaking of, we did add the remaining DME after flameout now, though as steam still was rising it was a bit of a hassle as it got sticky already in the bag...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Going to check out the book! Yet to decide when adding the last part of the DME, might try to add to the hot wort, if for no other reason, to get experience as I did it in cold wort last time. I am planning an 8L boil today to try to stay as safe as possible from boil overs. I know I have to...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Interesting thing about the calculation. Will maybe check it out, but I also agree with Keizer that I don't think it's perhaps necessary to make it too much about the numbers. Tomorrow is brew day so we will see how it goes :)

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Visited the brewing store yesterday, so should have got those anti-foams then. Not even sure what they might be called in Finnish... As the recipe is mine, and I live in Finland where we can't really grow hops, we almost exclusively use pellets here. So the recipe is made for pellet usage. I...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

@KeizerBrewr @Birrofilo @BrewnWKopperKat Thanks guys for all the great advice. The recipe in question is a home made experiment so we made it ourselves. Target in FV: 19L Pre-boil: 9L Boiloff maybe 1L 2.5KG Extra Light DME 24g 5,5AA Cascade @ 60min add grated ginger @ 15min (amount on brewtarget...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Ah that's what you meant. I thought there would be some more complex calculation :P Ah, well I can't do that. As I mentioned. So how would you suggest I adapt it to a partial boil? Add about 150g DME at pre-boil, do regular boil for bitterness and then mix the rest in with top of water in FV...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

I will have a look. Thanks! Though, by "full volume" I am not sure what you mean. My largest pot is 10L which is not enough for the whole batch, so I would either way have to top off with cold water in the FV (at least for batches greater than like 9L) EDIT: Had a look but cannot find the part...

Extract brewing - partial boil questions

Hello guys, I am rather new to the brewing scene and will do my third batch this weekend. Earlier batches have been 1x coopers lager prehopped LME (basic stuff) and last one was 19L own recipe DME extract recipe. Last brew, I basically boiled my hops in plain water for 45min for "bittered hop...

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

Haha ok. Well I think we are going to the brewing shop tomorrow, I will get the campden then and I will order this scale. Got some coupon for being a new user too so I almost get the scale for free LMAO. Will just have to wait a bit. Will probably not make it here til next brew day though which...

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

Yea I found now some from some odd store. 0,01g accuracy 200g max... So is not impossible. Well yea, but isn't ebay full of individual resellers, and it is up to them if they ship or not? Anyway, yes I have ordered from ebay here.

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

But does it add the step of having to wait for the water to release the chlorine? Like having it out over night? As I understood that this process happened quickly while boiling? I am not sure how to define inexpensive, but I am not even able to find scales with that kind of precision around...

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

Such small amounts. May be difficult to measure on my kitchen scale with an accuracy of 1g.... Sorry, I don't know what this translates to in terms of it being a problem that parts of the water is not boiled? I top off quite a lot.

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

Hmm ok. Yea our water does not smell at all, so as the report says, it's low on free chlorine. I would like to reduce the bound chlorine though. Currently looking what options I have from the local brew shop. I found this: Vinoferm Campden Sulfite: Kaliumdisulfiitti Vinoferm Campden 100g. I...

How is my water profile and have I interpreted it correctly?

The snow comment I am a bit sceptical about haha. Last year, at least this far down in Finland, we had like one day of snow. This year has been much different though. Nevertheless, Finland is known as the country of a thousand lakes, which is no exaggeration. I am also confident we have a lot of...
