    Cold Crashing oops....

Thanks for the info.... It was about an ounce of spring water in the airlock that made it back in. I now know I will be using starsan instead. I'm hoping the alcohol will kill off any impurities. This ale settled around 7.2%abv. Going to keg it today and see how it goes.

    Cold crashing oops....

Question.... A few days back I started cold crashing a pale batch but realized I forgot to remove the 3 pc airlock hence the vacuum sucked some of the h2o back into the batch... Is the batch ruined due to being oxidized? Should I keg it up and roll the dice?

    Fly sparge question.....

So... I've been batch sparging for some time now with decent results. A while back I picked up a hot liquor cooler and figured at some point I would fly sparge and I think I may on my next batch. My question is.... Would it be fair to say my sparge water volume would be the same as if I were...

    Treat mash paddle?

I recently purchased a solid maple mash paddle and I'm unsure if it's necessary to treat. I've read of people using a mineral type oil or butchers block oil. Some have also said not to treat at all. Curious what others have done. Will any of these oils end up in my wort? I know they are food...

    How long on stir plate?

Starter was almost milky white after the 28 hrs on stir plate. One note, when I took cover off to add the other package of 1056. I did notice foamy build up occurring. So maybe just slow fermentation going on here?? I did not take a reading right then. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    How long on stir plate?

It was about a 1.2 ltr starter. The recipe stated an OG of 1.064 ( I was at 1.060). In the past, I've gone up to a week if needed if I couldn't brew right away and the starter still took off rather quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    How long on stir plate?

I recently made a starter for a black IPA. I left it on stir plate for roughly 28 hrs and immediately put it in the fridge after. It sat for about five days before I brewed. On brew day I removed starter from fridge, decanted and it sat on counter for a couple hours before pitching. After about...

    Pitching question....

I recently brewed a chocolate oatmeal stout and my OG came in right around 1.072 My question, when I pitched my yeast I only used one pack of WYEAST London Ale III 1318. I know (now) it's recommended to use at least two packages or a starter for anything over 1.060 OG . It seemed I had decent...
