    Too much bottling sugar?

I must not have been clear Tobor. The brew I'm currently doing is a stout that's been carbonating for 5 days. that's the 4 gallon brew with too much sugar. When bottling I always draw off a cup to check final gravity before bottling. That's what tasted like a flat stout. The porter I brewed the...

    Between 67 and 68 degrees.

    Too much bottling sugar?

Yes I was tinkering around with the priming calculator that rburrelli mentioned on Northern Brewer. I will have to continue with more research on this apparently I've been adding a bit too much corn sugar. Even though that calculator says I've been using too much sugar the porter I made on my...

    Too much bottling sugar?

OK thanks. Was going by a simple set of instructions given to me by the brewing shop for basic bottling. This is my 2nd brew. My first was a porter that was awesome. After bottling I drank the cup or so I used to check the final gravity reading and it tasted like a great, but flat imperial stout.

    Too much bottling sugar?

Thank you so much. According to them I'm over by a bit, well a lot.

    Too much bottling sugar?

On my last batch, an imperial stout, I had a bit of a boilover. So instead of bringing volume up to an even 5 gallons I dropped it down to a little over 4 gallons. After racking to a secondary and transferring to the bottling bucket and adding 3/4 cup corn sugar and 2 cups boiling water I...

    Air exposure

Thank you Iowa and the guy at the brewing store said the same thing. I went by there to get grains and supplies for my next brew on the way to the river. Going to do an IPA this time. I'll use the blowoff tube next time around, but I have to either tape the stopper on the fermonster or figure...

    Air exposure

Thanks for the response. Yes it's still actively fermenting with bubbles coming out of the airlock. I'll keep my fingers crossed

    Air exposure

Brewed my 2nd batch last Saturday. By Sunday night fermentation was going great. By Monday morning all of the headspace was gone and I was getting concerned since some of the foam was getting in the airlock. So I put a blowoff tube on the airlock and placed the tube in the water and all was good...

    Brew kettle question

OK tried out the new kettle last night. And yes I'm not crazy about the bazooka tube or the false bottom. I do like the thermometer and the ball valve. The thing I disliked most about bazooka tube and false bottom is there's no way to stir the bottom of the kettle. I also experienced my first...

    Brew kettle question

Oops I meant cooler in the canoe

    Brew kettle question

Thanks Chikn. Keizer I took a closer look at your pic there. We used to use something similar for the cooler while canoeing. Sooner or later the tipping over starts and if you don't have the canoe in the cooler it's all good.

    Brew kettle question

Thanks Jim. Is the pond pump a submersible one?

    Brew kettle question

Jim thanks and I can see your point. And Keizer I just ordered one on Amazon. I built a cooling condenser once for recycling methanol when I was brewing biodiesel. No doubt I could've done it but it's prime time steelhead season right now and I need to make time for fishing any way I can. I do...

    Brew kettle question

Thanks Eric she's a keeper for sure. Believe me I kept looking at that 16 gallon kettle thinking I'm sure I'd grow into it. However, that sucker is huge and wouldn't fit on the stove top in the kitchen. Oh and I did order the wort chiller.

    Brew kettle question

Thank you both. I've gone this far so might as well get a wort chiller. I wondered if that tube would get plugged or not. The funny part is my wife originally ordered the 16 gallon by mistake and when I saw it I thought about trying to make it work, but it's enormous.

    Brew kettle question

My wife got me a really nice Gas One 8 gallon brew kettle for Christmas. It's the one with the false bottom and the bazooka screen tube on the ball valve. It also has a thermometer on the front of it. Is the thermometer dial submersible? I don't have a wort chiller yet and usually put the...

    fermentation stopped

Okay finished at 1.012 about a week later. Bottled 10 days ago and chilled a single bottle today to try it. Turned out good still not enough carbonation. I'll give it another 5 days. Oh I also upgraded from a brewing bucket to a Fermonster. Thanks everyone for your help.

    fermentation stopped

OK spoke with the guy at the brew shop yesterday, and he said that SG is right about where it should be at. He said that the beginning SG should have been right around 1.055 and when I checked a few days ago it was at 1.020. So I have not opened it again and won't for at least another week.

    fermentation stopped

Thanks everyone I'll leave it alone and check SG again in a week or so. DB the yeast is Imperial yeast ale house A01 or AOI
