I LOVE waking up to hot strike water. Easy as 1-2-3.

No, I'm using it directly in my Rubbermaid Mash Tun. The quality is a bit better but only time will tell. Since the other one failed on my on the first try, I definitely think this one is the better buy. Did you have any luck getting a refund?

Success! I've had great results with this heater. I've used it twice and it get's my water from 66 degrees to 166 degrees in 80 minutes. EDIT: The time above is for 6.5 gallons. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FO8FY68/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

That's unfortunate. I'm guessing the majority of these things are returned. Good luck!

Glad to hear you've had better luck. Luckily, the eBay seller had excellent customer service and issued a refund without me having to return the unit. I ended up ordering this one saturday night and it will arrive tonight (thanks amazon prime!). I'll test it out later this week and post my...

How's that heater working out for you? I'm looking to buy another one, but I don't want to shell out $40 for one.

    Mash Tun Discoloration

I've read about problems with dish soap and head retention during bottling/kegging, but nothing about it for the mash tun. Not that I don't believe you, but I'm just curious if anyone else cares to weigh in?

I figured that was the case, but I didn't find a thread about it before posting. Thank you.

    Mash Tun Discoloration

I'm using a 10g Home Depot cooler as a mash tun. After my last brew, I noticed that there is a slight brown color on inside of the cooler, presumably near the top of the grain bed after mashing. I always clean my equipment with soapy water after each use and I always discard the grain...

    She made me do it...

Made a pumpkin beer this past weekend (at my wife's urging) and experienced my first ever stuck sparge. It sucked and delayed things a bit, but it will all be worth it in the end. I tasted the wort and it was delicious. I'm really excited to see how it turns out.
