    Just Got my Water Report

Would I actually need a new water report? Wouldn't distilled water have essentially 0 ppm in all the categories? If I used half distilled water, and half of my tap water, wouldn't that cut all my ppm values in half? I could send a vial of distilled water to Ward labs, but not sure it would...

    Just Got my Water Report

I do have an under-sink RO filter, but it's painfully slow for much more than a few glasses of drinking water. Also have a traditional water softener. Should I send in a sample of softened water? Maybe mix the two?

    Just Got my Water Report

Getting back into homebrew and wanting to go all grain. (Mostly extract previously) Curious what people recommend based on my water report. Ward Labs Report: PH 7.6 (in ppm) TDS 539 Sodium 21 Potassium 2 Calcium 103 Magnesium 49 Total Hardness CaCO3 462 Nitrate 2.9...

    BIAB E-Brewery build

I think fuzzy logic is something I want. I will go with the 2352. Thanks for all the help.

    BIAB E-Brewery build

I just doublechecked the 2362 currently for sale works with AC power. Are there any features that people like about the 2352 that the 2362 doesn't have? 2362 seems like more features for a couple bucks cheaper. Just questioning if I missed something.

    eBIAB with PWM wiring

I just started a thread and posted a more simplified wiring diagram. It's based off the same image you posted. Mine is for a PID but it might help you as a starting point. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/biab-e-brewery-build-445992/

    BIAB E-Brewery build

I want to get my brewing out of the kitchen. I am definitely going BIAB and electric. I think PID makes the most sense. I plan on controlling my March pump manually. I plan on recirculating during mash with thermocouple at kettle exit. Feel free to critique my plans and wiring diagram.

Boil Times: Electric vs Propane vs Natural Gas

Not exactly. What matters is the energy delivered, not the energy density of fuel. If a natural gas and propane burner delivered the same volume of fuel in a given time period, then propane would deliver more heat. Ability of a system to heat water is a function of the amount of energy...

Boil Times: Electric vs Propane vs Natural Gas

What type of hardware/software do you have for the logging thermometer? Your boil time data has answered my question: I'm going electric. Now just a question of how crazy I get with automation and data logging etc

Boil Times: Electric vs Propane vs Natural Gas

Does anyone have decent data about boil times for different heat sources? I have a converted keg and would like to do 10gallons next batch. I'm planning on upgrading from the gas stove. Thinking about going 5500watt electric element, bayou burner or natural gas burner. Does anybody have...

    First attempt at a sour

If I'm taking sediment from the bottom of the primary, is there a reason to use a secondary, as apposed to letting it age in the primary?

    First attempt at a sour

Thanks for the reply. Any input on mash/fermentation temp?

    First attempt at a sour

I love all the sours Ive tried, can't get too many locally, so I really want to learn how to brew these. Ive done several extract kits with success. This will be my first BIAB. This weekend I'm brewing an Irish Red, because my wife complains I never brew anything she likes. Using more...

    First Non-Extract brew

Looking for some general guidance. Planning on doing BIAB with an Irish Red all-grain kit from MoreBeer. I am planning on doing a sparge by dunking the grain bag in another pot of 170° water. (or should I dump it over the suspended bag) What temp should I mash? How long should I mash...

    Water Question

I have brewed several successful extract batches. I'm planning n doing an all-grain BIAB brew this weekend. I know that water choice will matter more compared to extract. I have very hard water, a water softener, and a Reverse - Osmosis (post softener) system. Which of those three should...
