    Mead virgin

The biggest problem beer brewers run into when making mead is thinking they have enough equipment but are used to turning beer over much more quickly, 7 day primary, 2 week secondary, bottle, then your fermenters are free to start another batch. Mead will take longer, even the "quick mead"...

    Joe's Quick Grape Mead

Try 6 weeks. Unless something went wrong, it should be perfect. It ages really fast. Unless you tried to up the gravity.

    Quick brewing mead recipe please!

I've made this several times and if you follow the recipe exactly, without cutting corners or improvising, it is exactly as advertised. Im making another batch of it next weekend for drinking in December. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f80/joes-quick-grape-mead-57190/

    Quick brewing mead recipe please!

Not by Thanksgiving. Joe's Grape (pyment) is possible, but not the JAOM Joe's Ancient Orange is something you could ferment this week and drink in March.

    My First Mead. *Pic* Question.

It is frowned upon, unless you used ingredients with antioxidant properties. In this case, with 1 pound of honey and 2 cups of brown sugar, well, there's really nothing to save it now.

    Quick brewing mead recipe please!

Search for "Joe's Grape Mead" It's the only tried and true quick mead I've ever done. There are other good quick meads out there, but "quick" in mead terms usually means 6 months. Joe's Grape is the only one that is "as advertised" on quickness and drinkability. Even Joe's Ancient Orange...

No Amarillo, No Citra, No Mosaic

Midwest Supplies, when they are out, I consider everyone is out. Other places will substitute without being honest about it.

Are stabilizers (campden) required for JOAM?

Ive had some "poppy" JAO that I aged in flip-tops. If I were you, I'd stabilize it with both campden and sorbate, just to be sure.

No Amarillo, No Citra, No Mosaic

I'll take a pound of Amarillo.

No Amarillo, No Citra, No Mosaic

If you are a Carolina fan, congrats on the win. If you are not a Carolina fan, I accept your offer to check with your LBH on my behalf.

No Amarillo, No Citra, No Mosaic

And Simcoe tastes like grapefruit/cat piss. I've tried Cents as a sub for Amarillo. It is just different. Any other suggestions? I'm tired of the corporate bastards buying everything up just to let it rot in their sub-par "beers". I've been offline for a few years due to...

    Renting and Growing Hops

Plant. It. In. The. Ground. If you have to dig it up later, then dig it up. If that's a problem, then hop-growing probably isn't in your cards right now. For the guy who must grow on the roof, use rubbermaid containers. Expect problems. Especially in Chicago. I'd be more worried about...

Shame on you. It's too soon for Treyvon Martin jokes.

    Renting and Growing Hops

Put it in the ground, and if you have to dig up the crown this winter, then dig up the crown. There's no better time to dig up the crown than in the winter.

    Neighbors and Landlord

I trained the biggest bine up, hard to see. I'm getting tent stakes from walmart (more chinese stuff) to do the other two biggest bines, and also provide some half-assed support for the flagpole. There will be 3 bines with twine holding down that side, then when the nugget is ready, same setup...

    Neighbors and Landlord

Kiss my Ass. I had the decency to take the gold top off, and not throw the flag that came with the Harbor Freight flagpole into the garbage. I love America. This is a second year cascade, getting obnoxious. The little buddy is a second year nugget. That's right, $35 flagpole from...

    Joe's Quick Grape Mead

I never added the buckwheat honey. Is that added at the beginning or during backsweetening?

What extra stuff do you need for wine compared to beer?

Patience. Get a separate bucket and/or carboy so you don't rush it because you want to make another batch of beer.

Is acid blend the same as asobic acid?

I'm following a Keller recipe now that calls for "Acid Blend" and my LHBS gave me the same thing you have, citric, malic, and tartaric, in even proportions according to LHBS.
