Why Not - One More 1st AG Thread :)

I wasn't able to get it to lossen any.....so I just now ordered a 9" false bottom :) I'll just take the braided line off the keggle....the break material and hop sludge has never hurt my beer before :mug:

    Is this cooler big enough?

At 1.25 qt/lb you should be able to mash close to 30lbs of grain in a 48qt cooler!!

Why Not - One More 1st AG Thread :)

My first try at buying this stuff I got the plastic stuff from Home Depot....this time was definitely stainless (the cuts all over my hands bear proof). No wheat in the recipe. Straight up, the braid was too tightly woven. I'll try a different braid....I don't really wanna mess with the...

Why Not - One More 1st AG Thread :)

Yes, yesterday I finally used my converted mash-tun and keggle. The only issue I ran into was that the stainless braids were WAY too fine/tight and wouldn't allow the mash-tun and keg to drain. They weren't really "clogged" up, but just too tight a braid to drain. I tested them the night...

    AHBS Kits?

Thanks for the reply, Forrest! I PM'd you my order info. And this goes to show that AHS is still TOP NOTCH. Every business has hiccups (mine is no exception)....but the way they are handled, I believe, shows the true value that said business provides. Thanks again, Forrest!

    AHBS Kits?

I hate to post this, but be careful ordering this week from AHS....I ordered online last night to brew this weekend and forgot to add a packet of dry yeast to carb another beer I have going. I've never ordered ANYTHING from another shop, keep in mind. I called to get them to add the dry yeast...

Why is a full boil better than a partial boil?

^^True...but the recipe that came in the kit wouldn't have a partial boil in the instructions either :)

Why is a full boil better than a partial boil?

Why do people always say you'll have more IBU's, lighter color, etc with a full boil? If you're just using whatever the brew store sent home with you (and meant you to do a partial boil) and doing a full boil, then yes these are true. But if you're using the tools that you have at your...

    AHBS Kits?

Agreed, top notch service, fast/cheap flat rate shipping, and great recipes! I won a Best Of Show with their Texas Bock recipe and 3rd place in category with their Blonde Ale at the only competition I've ever entered!

    getting lagers to reach fg

What was the recipe (malt and yeast)??...some beers simply never get down to that 1.010 level no matter how badly you'd like them to (although in these cases you generally wouldn't want them to).

    Official Dixie Cup 2007 Thread

Anyone mind taking a quick note of any Lubbock Ale-Ian Society brewers that win any awards for me? I'd sure appreciate it and others in the club who might be winners would like it too!! Maybe just a note of the name and award? Any takers???

Contest scores all over the place

So what comments/notes did they leave on your score sheets on these "bad" brews?? Surely you got back the score sheets right?

Contest scores all over the place

BM^^^BJCP has setup rules/regs for judging to help this out. You should be limited to how many beers per flight...there are ways to keep BIG beers from ruining the judging of smaller beers. They even go as far as teaching judges how to keep their pallet clean/fresh so they can make good calls...

Contest scores all over the place

You definitely should have received plenty of feedback on your sheets for the '13' score!! If not, write an e-mail to the contest coordinator or President of the hosting club/organization expressing your concerns. Coordinators should strive to get quality/certified judges to work...these...

    Dixie Cup XXIV

Hey Ed! Do you know if they'll be e-mailing out of town winners? I have high hopes for my Schwarzbier after winning BOS at the Cactus! Or will the website be updated pretty soon afterwards (Sunday even?)? Thanks :)
