Let's Talk about My APA - Malt Analysis Inside

I always have a 60-70 minute boil, and on the cream ales I did 90 since it had a bit more Pilsen malt in it (avoiding DMS). I use a big immersion chiller, most of the time it crashes from boiling to under 80º in about 5 minutes, and under 70º in another 5 or so. I've always used Irish Moss or...

Let's Talk about My APA - Malt Analysis Inside

I haven't been able to get an exact malt analysis from the maltster just yet, but am working on it. For now, we'll use the analysis they provide online! BACKGROUND: I came upon a deal with our local brewery where we could get bulk grain at great pricing. I jumped on it. I purchased a big...

iBrew - An iPhone Brew Log

A handy calculator would be great! When I preheat my mashtun, I always have to run in after getting the temp of the grains and strike water to make sure they'll even out to the right temp for my first infusion. A simple calculator would be handy to avoid trips back in! Also, the Brix/Gravity...

11th Annual Cactus Challenge - Texas Folks!!!!

Definitely send them! And like I said above, being a smaller competition can't hurt your chances of getting some hardware to show off too :mug:

Barley Crusher - How's This for Customer Service?

I ordered one on their website over the weekend and had a tracking number Monday afternoon. The best part was that it was NOT the regular UPS quantum view notification, but rather a real e-mail from Randy. Even if it was a standard copy and paste e-mail, I couldn't be happier! I've been...

11th Annual Cactus Challenge - Texas Folks!!!!

The fact that we are a smaller club than many in the Lonestar circuit and the fact that we don't want to get caught with our pants down and not have enough judges to get through a good/fair first round of judging led us to set the dates up as they stand. We are expecting around 300 entries...

11th Annual Cactus Challenge - Texas Folks!!!!

We're back in the Lonestar Circuit, and being one of the smaller competitions on the circuit this could be a great way to grab a few extra points this year! Do you have what it takes to take home the Cactus Belt Buckle for Best Of Show? Last year's BOS beer was fantastic (and made by me...

    First Lager question

A method I like for my lagers is to let the wort sit in the boil kettle after the boil for a little while longer, even chill it if you like....then rack it to the fermenter and pitch the yeast there. This will make for a clearer beer and less need for a secondary stage. This was recommended in...

    Wonderful News!!!!!!

Just burn more calories daily than you take in and you'll lose weight (generally speaking anyway!) Burn the same as you take in and you stay roughly the same weight! It's really kind of easy to understand. Beer, french fries, donuts, etc all just have more calories than your bakes chicken...

    Our First Label

I agree it looks very strong, but when on paper it really was pretty smooth. The other backgrounds colors were a lighter blue, a sort of creamy yellow color, and a pale green.

    Our First Label

WOW, that really looks terrible now....I'll try something different this weekend to get a cleaner shot uploaded. Well, tried it as bitmap, not much better. Hmm.

    Our First Label

Here it is. Since we are giving a variety basket of my homebrew to the guys of the family for Christmas, it was only appropriate that we make a label for the bottles! This is the the Hobgoblin clone I made....the details/info/colors change a bit for each different brew. When printed it is a...

    Kid Pics

Here's one of my 14 month old from last night. We took him to the mall for a picture with Santa....he wasn't a fan of that, as you can tell!

    Homebrew for Christmas.

For the guys in the family, my wife and I are making "gift baskets" of homebrew. I'm putting 2 each of my FatTire clone, Orfy's Hobgoblin clone, and Ed's Apfelwein. We made our new labels and changed the colors and details of each label slightly for each brew. Then we got some nice pint...

Who made the "How TO Pour Homebrew" Sign?

Many commercial breweries filter their beer...so leaving the last 1/4" in those cases is just....a waste!
