    Schlafly Beer

In January I was in St Louis for business for a week and hit some of the local beer scene. Schlafly's was a good, widely available beer. I especially liked Square One and Mattingly Brewing

    Fat Tire Yeast Substitution?

I've used White Labs WLP051 Calkifornia Ale yeast with excellent results

Does this make any dry hopping sense?

I have far better success using just a muslin bag vs using a tea ball

Can Hops be grown in Central Texas?

I grew 3 cascade plants this past summer and harvested a few ounces (not sure on amount) of hops off of them. Not bad results for 1st year plants. I've used them to dry hop some pale ales.

using whole flower hops instead of pellets

Possibly a dumb question but I'm going to be using whole flower Cascade in a recipe calling for pellets. Should I use same weight measurement or increase/decrease?

    Still foam

I finally (hopefully?) have figured out my foaming problem. My relatively new kegging setup only has 4' of 3/16 line so I'm guessing I have too short of line. Now I see 6' being suggested but is there anything wrong with going longer? I hate to get 6' and then realize I needed 7'

What is the cheapest way to make a lagering setup?

I believe that chest freezers are better than fridges for things like that. I have a chest freezer, just trying to figure out the cheapest way to do a tempature controller Check Craigslist for free/cheap freezers and fridges

    filtering, or bagging?

I've never filtered my hops in any way. Some don't make it to the primary from the pot, the rest get left behind when I rack to the secondary.

Fridge that can hold a carboy?

Craigslist is the way to go. I found a free fridge, probably late 60s/early 70s judging by it's Harvest Gold paint scheme. I repainted it and it's the perfect size for a kegerator

FYI- heineken bottles not worth the effort

Fat Tire labels come off extremely easy in my experience as well

hope it's ok to brag, repainted kegerator

:) Got an old fridge for free for my kegerator. Classic 70s Harvest Gold with rust accents. That was fine in my old place where it was in garage but at the new house it's in the kitchen so the g/f said it needed to look nicer. My son helped me come up with the idea on what to paint it.

    Austin Home Brew Kits

Their Fat Tire clone is better than real Fat Tire. I'm lucky, AHB is my local brew store, I am currently brewing a Fireman's #4 clone, which is a local brewer named Real Ale

Who's brewing this weekend, Aug 26th/27th

I'm brewing a clone of Real Ale's Fireman's 4 "Fireman's #4 Blonde Ale This light bodied blonde ale is perfectly balanced with a touch of Crystal hops for bittering and aromatics. Fireman's #4 is a great choice on any hot Texas summer day or pair it with spicy foods to help you put out the fire."

How long does your cO2 last?

Because of the properties of CO2 (stored as liquid) the gauge really won't move till it is almost empty. The high pressure side gauge is about as useful as the oil light in a car :)
