    Did some shoppin'

Man I wish I could find that 8 pack around here! I like their beers but I'm not a huge fan of Belgian styles in general, so I don't want to buy a whole case of one variety...

    Homebrewing books

You can read the first edition online... the book is now in its third edition and has added tons more information. But if I had to pick a second book I would say Beer Captured. Seeing clone recipes for popular brands helps you formulate your own recipes.

    What's your brewery name?

Here's my first attempt at a label after two years of brewing. I got my hands on Photoshop CS and decided to see what I could do. Anyway my brewery name is Coalcracker Brewworks... Coalcracker is a name for people from Pennsylvania's coal region, where I am from. The coal region is a...

    Budbo?

DeRoux and Janx were the two guys who answered all my newbie questions when I first joined the board. I think I'd still be a panicked mess of a homebrewer if those two hadn't kept drilling the Papazian motto into my head :)

    Other Hobbies

Traveling and Travel Photography when money and vacation time allow. My pictures are online at Flickr... I've been to England, France, Italy, and Quebec (might as well be its own country!) I also play a lot of Xbox 360 and PC games. My handle on Xbox Live is ryser2k.

    Homebrewing books

I would go with Palmer's How to Brew. The level of detail is just enough to not overwhelm the beginning brewer but to also be useful to the advanced brewer. Even Papazian recommends it over his own book :) http://www.howtobrew.com/

    I am such a dork

Mythbusters Dirty Jobs Man vs. Wild I Shouldn't Be Alive Yeah the Discovery Channel pretty much owns my Tivo... I also like some Travel Channel shows like No Reservations, but that show is on hiatus until the new year.

    Holiday Wishlists

I'm getting a new brewery (aka house), but unfortunately it's not going to just drop down my chimney. The only thing Santa is giving me for Christmas is a new mortgage :)

    back to basics

I did two all grain batches but have since gone back to partial mash. I actually prefer PM to AG, the amount of work is just right and the result is almost identical.

History of the Crappy American Lager

Part two of this interview is in today's Basic Brewing podcast. I highly recommend it, lots of interesting info that I never knew about before (and I thought I knew it all :) )

Do you have Advent Calendars in the US?

    That is just awesome

    Dumbest mistake.

I made a double IPA a couple months back which had 6 ounces of hop pellets in it. I was siphoning the wort out of the kettle into my brand new 6.5 gal glass carboy, trying to leave as many of the hops in the kettle as I could... for some reason that day I decided not to use a hop bag...

    Fraoch recipe

There's a Fraoch recipe in Clone Brews I think... my dad wanted me to make it but I've never had a heather ale so I decided against it.

What Should I Do With It?

Pour two cans out for your fallen homies :)

How many hydro's have you broken?

I broke the glass candy thermometer I was using for brewing last week... just barely hit something with the top of it and it just shattered. Never broke a hydrometer, but then again I hardly ever use it :)

New 5 and 6 gallon glass carboys

PS - This store is great for homebrewing supplies of all types, not just carboys. They have bottles sometimes, glassware for serving, various utensils, mason jars for yeast washing, etc. Also I bought a 5 gallon stainless steel pot there for like $15 and it's very good quality.

New 5 and 6 gallon glass carboys

Here's their official website, they have stores in Lancaster and Reading, plus some others in DE, NH, NC, and MD. I can confirm that they have 5 gallon glass carboys at the Reading store. It's located at the VF Factory Outlet...
