    My Rig--thanks HBT!

Thanks guys. I brewed a Roasted Pecan Porter the other day and everything ran pretty smooth. I need quick disconnects for sure, and I almost had a stuck mash, but I overcame that and the rest was smooth as silk

    My Rig--thanks HBT!

Hey all, my new brew rig, the "HAL 2000", is just about finished and I wanted to post a special thanks to all the HBT vendors that I used to build it. the design and just about every part was purchased from vendors on HBT. Its a direct fire RIMS ("Brutus 10"). Here are a couple of pics and...

    substitute for sterling?

Hmmm, you can probably decide using this: http://www.ciltech.com/muggsy/Comparing%20and%20Selecting%20Hops%20&%20Grains.htm Its a handy little chart that I use for substitutions.

    fresh hop/wet hop failure

I just did one: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/knight-wethop-ale-196113/#post2287211 preliminary results are very promising. Mine has a lot of hop flavor. Now I did some amarillo and centenniel to start out, then did the Cascade wet hops. But its very hoppy in the secondary right now.

    Stuck mash

Bump. I had a bit of a stuck mash my first time using jaybirds false bottom in my keggle mashtun. I did find that heating it up to 180 to do a mashout seemed to help get things moving a bit, but I ended up having to stir and jack around with it a bit to get it going. Seemed like once the flow...

    Beersmith sparge temperature

You are wanting to "mash out" via your sparge, and that is not what beersmith is calculating for you. It's giving you the standard sparging temperature to keep the wort viscous and prevent a stuck sparge and not extract tannins. You are not achieving a mash out at 168 and brewsmith isn't...

"Brutus" Thread - Show us your Brutus!

I've had leaking problems with mine as well. I think I finally got them all worked out, but it was a pain there for a bit.

    Six String Pecan Porter (AG)

So I brewed something similar to this this last weekend. I ended up using 6 oz pecans, and toasted them dark in the oven as you suggested. I also added a cup of molasses. I didn't have the glacier hops so I used some Nugget instead. Otherwise, I used the exact same grain bill. This was my...

    Knight Wethop Ale

Hehe. I tasted it this weekend and it is coming along very nicely. Strong hop flavor and the malt is nicely balanced.
